In a letter from Kyle McCormick, Publisher of the Princeton Observer to my grandmother, Mercedes McCormick: " John McCormick married Susan (should be Susannah) Dowdy in Rocky Mount in Franklin County in 1836...He left and came to Monroe County about 1840-was a fairly prosperous miller with a large family-a son John, a renegade just about broke up the family when he killed a Dr. Dunn in a fight at a dance when Dunn insulted a sister."
