Hi all, I've been following the string on Hoke Cem. and the Vance messages. I have a question for someone who does the VANCE line in the Monroe/Greenbrier area. Samuel Humphreys (c1776-1855) was listed (1850 Federal census - Monroe Co) as married to wife "Polly age 66" - born c1784. Some say she was a VANCE (others say Jarvis -- Morten). In later censuses, her son said that she was born in Maryland. Out of curiosity -- are there any VANCES in the area who came from MD? Are there any Mary "Polly" Vances that are unaccounted for who might have married in Monroe/Greenbrier c1800. Samuel moved from the Anthonies Creek area of Greenbrier down onto Indian Creek around 1800. His sister, Isabella, married Rev. Jacob Cook who had a grant for many hundred acres on Indian Creek c1798. Samuel's land bounded on Cook and several Maddys. Does any of this place Samuel near the VANCE area of settlement? Ed
