He lists land of Andrew Lewis of 1200 acres at Sinks above the head of Indian Creek in 1780. Another of Andrew Lewis 0p acres, head of Indian creek and Greenbrier waters in 1780. He also has some other info on them: Colonel John Lewis fled from Ireland in 1792 nd ssettled 2 miles east of Staunton, Va, near the hills. He was the first permanent settler and founder of August county. Had sons, Thomas Andrew, William, and Charles. He states they were tall, powerful men, influential, masterful, and thrifty. Thomas lived near Port Republic in Rockingham County and was a surveyor of Augusta Co. Andrew lived in Salem, Va. He was an Indian fighter, and won the battle of Point Pleasant. Charles was the youngest, and he lived on Cowpasture River. He was killed at Point Pleasant. William born 1724, died 1813. He moved to Sweet Springs Valley in 1783. His first home was at the Sweet Chalybeate Springs. Also had one at Lynnside in Monroe Co. John, a son of William, married a daughter of Colonel William Preston. He was a Major and fought in Washingtn's army at Monmouth. He succeeded his father at Sweet Springs and died there in 1823. John's son, William L. Lewis, lived in S. Carolina, for several years, but returned in 1848 and ran the establishment at Lynnside. John's son, John B Lewis, became a cadet at West Point in 1826. There is a bit more, but hope this helps answer some of your questions. Phyllis
