I have Thompson and Broyles as grandparents gr. and etc.and the Name Mary Polly does appear and so does the names of John and James thompson but I have not been able to connect the dates with yours . Will do more researcj and let you know Mary Shanks

Hey all, I have a few Riner marriages in Monroe Co. that I'd like a bit more information on if any is available. I'm hopeing that there may be some more info. out there from the Thompson side. I know who the Riners are but would like to know if anyone has a connection for the Thompsons or a local family of this era that has similiar names with unknown spouses. The Riners are children of John (b. after 1858) and Lydia (?) Riner who came to Rich Creek, Monroe Co. somewhere around October of 1819 (1st land purchase) from the Robinson River area just South of Madison, Madison Co., Virginia. The Riners are all mentioned as children of John and Lydia in a property dispersement in Madison Co., Virginia after John died about 1820 or so. Seems the Riners had property in both Madison and Monroe Co., and not all (if any) of the family had actually moved to Monroe Co., when John died somewhere about 1820-1823. 1. This data does need to be examined and debated, but for a start, I will just correct two points. First, my chart does not say that Isabella was married in 1734, it says that her husband was born in 1734. Secondly, your data on Samuel Humphreys confuses data from at least two (maybe three) Samuel Humphreys that lived in the greater Greenbrier area in the 18th century. Grizilla Cavet was definitely the second wife of Samuel Humphreys, b. 1741. His son by the first marriage, Samuel, was married to a Polly -- there is a lot of argument as to what her last name was (1850 census says he was 74 and she was 66 -- you do the math). Richard Humphreys of Muddy Creek, etc. died in 1816. His son, Samuel, has a will or estate inventory in Monroe County in the 1810's also. He was not Samuel, Jr. (of Greenbrier mentioned above) who moved to Indian Creek about 1800 and died in the 1850's.
