    2. Some information on Hudson/Pitzer. Summers County Marriage Book; 8Aug1882 - John T Hudson, 22 , born Monroe Co, son of John C and Isabell J ___ Hudson: Ann Eliza Pitzer, born Monroe Co (no age listed), daughter of Robert H and Lilly B. Pitzer. Married by James M. Lucas.. Note: Monroe Census 1860 # 515; Census 1870, Forest Hills, # 272. I had John Tartan Hudson's death date incorrect. It was 20nov1926. I had death and Marriage the same. The marriage for Robert H Pitzer and Lilly Belle Frey is listed in the Marriage Book, however no documentation could be found by me in the Court House. I was ask what the Number 5, by Robert H Pitzer's name was. It is the Fifth generation in my Pitzer Family File. Robert-George-Carey-John-Ulrich Pitzer. How does; Ote O Hudson (1876-1922) who married Ada Pitzer (16Jun1883-1978) fit into the Hudson Family? Mabe in MD

    3. Phyllis, How excited I am to hear from you. My grandfather was Henry Guy Hudson and lived in Marie, WV with his brother Glen. I know about the cemetery you spoke about and have all the Hudson names from it, (I guess). Grandpa died in 1976 and the last time I was there was a few years before that. I remember looking out over some big beautiful valley from his yard. He did have indoor plumbing (a water pump inside) but the "facilities" were down a path outdoors. I did know that an Emmett Shanks married my great aunt Jeanie Hudson. Your Mattie Virginia must be the same one. She did have a sister named Chessie. The only information I have about John T. and Anna Eliza Hudson are their list of 15 children. I did find out some stuff about Robert H. Pitzer and his wife Lily Belle Frey and some children from his 2nd marriage. Do you have a Summers Cty. Marriage book that would list the marriage of John Tartan Hudson to Anna Eliza Pitzer? Do you know if her mother was Lily Bell and how did she die? Do you know if New Hope Methodist Church has any records about the people buried in their cemetery? I would love to have any information (and source notes) that you may have, if it is not to much trouble. I also have pictures of Henry and Glen Hudson if you are interested I could send them by snail mail. Hope to hear from you soon. Skoney Did you know Jesus prayed for His disciples? See John 17:6. Are you one of His?

    3. Instead of buying the book by Oren Morton, go to your local library and have them order it via interlibrary loan. I did that several months ago at my local library in Thousand Oaks, CA. The special request cost me 50 cents. They ordered it from a library in Sacramento, CA, and I received it in about 2 weeks. I had the use of it for an entire month, then it was returned. Interlibrary loan has saved me a lot of money, not just on Morton's book about Monroe County, but on a lot of other books I've needed for my genealogy research.

There is a J C Hudson listed as a Confederate soldier in the Civil War who was a member of Thurmonds Rangers. My gr gr grandfather was also a member of that group. They were home guards who protected the families in the area. I am familiar with the Hudson family a little as well as the Pitzer family. I am from WVa, and still own property there. I am going back again next week. On Little Stony Creek, which is off Route 1, War Ridge Road, down in the hollow (holler, as we refer to it) was the "Old Pitzer Place". Some of my family lived in it after them. It was a log house as I remember it. It set on the left hand side of the road at the foot of the hill going down into the holler. I remember going there when my Uncle Bud and Aunt Flora lived there. They were making cane syrup. They had a big vat in the middle with a paddle being pulled around the vat by a donkey. The Hudson family lived at Marie. I believe they had 16 kids. Marie is just up the road from the Pitzer Place. You go past the Pitzer house (which is no longer standing) and follow the road up the other side of the hill and out a ways. That is Marie. My great grandmother, Maggie Shanks Walters, had a son, Emmett Shanks, who married Mattie Virginia Hudson, born 1896, died 1981. Virginia had a sister, Chessie Hudson. I may have some more info on the Hudson's somewhere. A number of the Hudson family is buried at the New Hope Methodist Church at Marie. I have a Monroe and Summers County Cemetery books if you need any addidtional info. Phyllis

    1. Re: [WVMONROE] RE: Lewis
    2. I rather sure that it is not the same Lewis family, unless this John W. Lewis descended thorugh siblings of the Augusta County John Lewis, head of the Lewis clan. It was the son of the second John who established Sweet Springs resort. It's interesting to me, however, that the property of the John W. Lewis, about 2,000 acres in Allegheny County) was very near the property owned by William Lewis in Monroe County. I've seen references, from census records I believe, in which John W. is listed as having been born in both Pennsylvania and Maryland. I haven't looked at the dates, but maybe he was born in just one place (duh!), but that the place had been in both states at different times. The Mason-Dixon survey was performed to settle conflict (sometimes armed) between Maryland and Pennsylvania over disputed territory. Maybe my John W. actually was born in both Pa. and Md. I'll have to follow up on that.

    2. In a message dated 00-08-11 09:55:27 EDT, you write: << patrickkenney@uswest.net >> The part of Allegheny County in which my Lewis family lived had been in Monroe County. The marriage record that she send in the other e-mail is the record of this John and wife Elizabeth. I have a copy of the note that Elizabeth's father wrote asking the clerk to grant a marriage license for her to John. Her parents were Peter Harman and Betsy Mann. I have found links for the Harman line, but have not established who Betsy Mann's parents were yet, although I have my suspicions. Here is what I have on John W. Lewis and his family. 3. Dear Phyllis, I noticed a message you addressed to Phillip about a history book. If it's not too much trouble, could you look up the name Hudson in the "History of Monroe County, West Virginia"? I have very little information about my gg-grandfather John Hudson except that he was born in Bedford Cty., VA. This is most of the information I have: Henry Guy Hudson (b. 29 Jan 1903 Marie, Monroe Cty. and d. Monroe Cty. WV) & Emma Mae Prather (my grandparents) John Tartan HUDSON (b. 1861 Summers Cty.) & Anna Eliza PITZER (b. 1870 Monroe Cty., WV; d. Monroe Cty.) John HUDSON (b. Bedford Cty., VA; d. 1926 Monroe Cty., WV) & Isabel (or Jane) TALBERT (d. Monroe Cty., WV) I did find Pitzer and her father in the 1870 Fed. Census for Monroe Cty. That was the year she was born. In the 1880 Census, her father Robert PITZER was listed but no Anna. She was married in 1882 (12 years old!) but must have lived elsewhere. In the 1880 Census, I found John with son John T. (among others). All but his last three of his 9 children, were born in VA. That is all I know about the John HUDSON. Any other information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance Judi Ann
