Sandy, I do have Mahala 31 yrs living with Sarah and Harvey in the 1880 W.Va. census of Kanawha County Elk Dist. dwelling # 89. It lists her as disabled, unable to read and write. As for Amanda and Allen, Someone sent that info to me, my ref # did not get added to my notes. So it is unproven by me. Did you ever substantiate if Sarah died or divorced Harvey? Thanks debbie debea107@aol.com
I have done some research on Joseph Helms/Helems who married Mary Gray, the daughter of James and Mary Harrison Gray. Joseph was also a son of Rebecca and John Helms. Sue Craig County, VA

Hi Dorothy, Glad to know you are still online. I emailed you from work about a week ago and it bounced. Maybe a server was down? Sending the Hoke information directly to you. It is to big for the list and a Gedcom will give you all of it. It is being sent at the same time this is. I just wanted to make sure you got a reply. Cousin Bob
Sharon, the only Young that I have to my knowledge is Emma Young married to Washington Greenkee Meadows in Kanawha Co. area of W.Va. This Meadows did however come from Monroe. My other Young connection is from the Flagg Springs area of Campbell Co. Kentucky. The family of George Mansfield Young married Leannah Littleton Mitchell also of Kentucky. debbie from So. Sandy how early for a marriage of Thomas Young? I don't have any early Monroe but I do have early Kanawha Co. that lists many other counties depending on the county of the brides birth also. debbie debea107@aol.com
Sandy, I have this for Emma F. Young: b. July 1855 married 2 May 1878 Summers Co. Va. Washington Greenkee Meadows . Both listed as 22 years of age at time of marriage. Children: James Wilbur b. 1882 Ida M. b. 1884 Charles H. 1885 John Sydney b. 1889 W. Greenkee and Emma are both listed for the first time as a couple in the 1880 census of W.Va. In the census of 1900 W.Va. Cabin Creek district of Kanawha County they are listed with their 4 children. By the 1910 Census of West Virginia Malden District: Green Meadows 54 yrs and Emma 54 yrs are listed with son Wilbur 28 yrs his wife Laura 21 years , gdaughter Marsella 2yrs and Green's oldest son Sydney (John) age 21 years lists him as single. The census sates that Wilbur and Laura have been married 4 years. In a 1920 Census of West Virginia Malden District #6 it lists that G.W.Meadows is living in the household of his son John (Wilbur) and his wife Laura and their two daughters Marcella and Leona. G.W. is 64 years old and is a widower. Emma must have died sometime after 1910. The census states that G.W. was a carpenter with the R. R. and was born in W.Va. Death of Washington Greenkee Meadows was reported by his son John Wilbur Meadows. to be on Nov. 17, 1935 in Witcher W.Va. at the age of 80 years , 4 months and 20 days. This account lists his occupation as a handle maker and his birth place as Summers County. It lists his father as Harvey Meadows and his mother as Martha Boone? I never have been able to figure that out.!!! What I would give to have this much inforamtion on Harvey E. Meadows, Washington Greenkee's father. Debbie in So. Dear Bob Zingo, in your listing of Henry Hoke descendants, you have Robert Young marrying "Mary" Hoke. Actually, her name was Margaret Hoke, and they were my ggggrandparents. Their daughter, Mery Young, married Samuel Hellems in Monroe Co., WV, and they lived near Gap Mills, WV, where he was engaged in brick making with his brother Thomas. Samuel and Thomas Hellems/Helms were the sons of Strawder Helms, who was b. in Botetourt Co., VA, and died in 1889 in Craig Co., VA, where he had been sheriff after the Civil War. Strawder was murdered by a man named Alex "Deaf" Tucker, over a property line fence. Tucker wasn't arrested until the following year, and he was turned loose about 6 months later, even though he shot Strawder twice and beat him over the head until he was dead. There was a story about this murder in the Monroe Watchman. Strawder was the son of John Helms and Rebecca Drummond, and Strawder's wife was Elizabeth Kem of Wayne Co., IN, daughter of Thomas and Mary Centz Kem who were married in Botetourt Co., VA. Dorothy Miller P.S. I have been in contact with you previously concerning the Hoke lineage, as another connection is Barbara Soffer who 1st m. Henry Daugherty then William Henry Hoke in 1815. Barbara and Henry Daugherty's daughter, Leticia/Letty m. David Bostick in Monroe Co., WV, my ggggrandparents, too. I am eagerly awaiting a copy of your Hoke information so I may compare it to the information I have which was written by the children of Christopher Hoke who m. a Biggs in the 1930s when they worked for the WPA in Monroe Co., WV.
