    3. Sandra, you may be right. My Nancy has a brother named James Peyton. Nancy married a Boone (Boon) and James P. married Rebecca Boggs. I do fine father listed in John D. Sutton book as James, else where it gives Isaac as father born in England. Where did you find your James? I may have been going in the wrong direction. Thanks for your help. 2. Hi, Dorothy. I didn't know that you were related to "Uncle Lem." I believe we met at either Aunt Edith's or my grandmother's (Ethel Lowance) funeral. You'll have to fill me in on the Hellems (Helms) family. Bill Johnson

    1. Re: [WVMONROE] Leonard Helems/Hellems family
    2. Yes, I know a little about Leonard Marion Hellems, but not much of anything about his family. He was in Greenbrier County during 1900s, but somewhere along the line the name changed to Helms. He lived until 1949 and married three times--the second time to my gg aunt Esta Shafer and third time to my great aunt Mary Edith Lowance. I've always been fascinated with "Uncle Lem," although he died a year or so before I was born. I have several of his diaries and some of his other positions that my aunt, his widow, had. I'd be happy to share with you anything that I know. Some of the diaries have some family information (births, marriages, deaths.) Bill Johnson Harrisburg PA

    2. Dorothy, I'm not from the Helms/Helems line. I 'm doing research on Mary Gray Helms and her family. My husband is down from James Gray and Mary Harrison. Mary Helms is a sister to his gggrandmother, Mahala Gray Crawford. I'm working with two ladies that are descended from John Helms and Rebecca Drummond. They told me that Joseph gambled away most of Mary Helms inheritance and moved to Allegheny County where he died in the poor house. I haven't been checking on him. Sorry. Sue Craig County

    3. Sue, while I have a list of Joseph Helms and Mary Gray's 8 children, and information about Joseph's dying in 1898 in Alleghany Co., VA, there seems to be some mystery as to where he spent the years between 1870 and 1898, leaving Mary to raise their family alone. Do you have any info about this period? From which child are you descended? I would appreciate receiving a brief outline of your lineage to add to the Helms/ Hellems information I have collected, names and dates, and where they were located. Thanks in advance. 1. [WVMONROE] Joshua and Mordecia Roles
    2. Melinda E Jacquier
    3. Hello list members, Just a note to let anyone know who is interested in either of these men, my newly found cousin Brenda and I have finally proven that Joshua and Mordecia are brothers! After many years of research we finally found a notation in the Smith-Riffe Collection that said Joshua's son Chas Chris was named this to distinguish him from his cousin Capt. Chris who was a Capt. in the Conf. Army (Capt Chris was Mordecia's son!) We are quite happy to have finally proven this-well as much proof as we think we will ever get. No family bible has ever been founed for either family. We are now trying find their parents and to prove a sibling relationship to Patience Roles who married Benjamin Halstead. This is another relationship that has seemed logical for many years but is unproven. There is also the possiblilty of other siblings: Nancy (who married Joshua Callaway), Rebecca (who married Alexander Bryson) and Prudence who married (William Campbell). Would love to hear from anyone interested or with info on any of these people. 3. Hello, I am looking for info on the Joshua Callaway (sometimes spelled Calloway) family from Monroe Co. He married Nancy Rowles in 1813 in Monroe Co. although according the LDS Ancestral file it is listed at Roads. They had 6 children and Joshua was the son of Zachariah Callaway. Joshua was married in 1808 to a Rebecca Campbell but apparently she died and he married Nancy. Would love to hear from anyone who might have more info on this family-especially info on Nancy's parents or siblings. 1. [WVMONROE] Leonard Helems/Hellems family
    2. Melinda E Jacquier
    3. Hello, I am wondering if anyone out there who has Hellems in their family has info on Leonard Marion Hellems. He was born to Leonard and Juda (Donahoe) Hellems in Nov 1855. He married Mary A. Hinton (born 1860 to Evan and Nancy (Milburn) Hinton) in Summers Co. in Dec. 1880. I found them in the 1900 census in Summers co. with the following 3 children: Ethel born Aug 1892 Trophy (sp?) born Aug 1895 Otto born Oct 1899 Cannot find them in WV in the 1910 or 1920 censuses. I also find it odd that their first child was born 11 years after they were married. Leonard had a brother and sister who married wife Mary's brother and sister. (Silas R Hinton and Emily F Hellems and Andrew J Hellems and Elizabeth Ellen Hinton) Does anyone have any info on this family? Thank you-Melinda Roles Jacquier in Long Beach, CA ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Juno now offers FREE Internet Access! 3. Bob Zingo, the Monroe Co. Historical Society published a Cemeteries of Monroe Co. book several years ago, of which I think they still have copies for sale at about $50 each. I've not felt like investing in this volume todate nor have I had access to a copy, but it may carry these cemeteries. Also, the cemetery that Henry Hoke is buried in is located on a mountain near the Childer's Road on Second Creek. I have pictures of the gravestones taken by Stewart Bostic who passed away last fall. I am already enjoying your GEDCOM, and will provide you the name of Barbary and Sally Soffer's father, John Soffer, but I have not found out where it came from in 1787, which is the first record I have found of him selling property in Greenbrier Co., WV. I have a copy of his Will in Monroe Co., when he died in 1813, and of 2-3 marriages in the early-1800s on record in Union, WV. Will get back with you as I have time to compare your information with mine next week. Dorothy Miller
