Hello to All, I am looking for the wife of William Dunsmore. William was born Abt. 1794. William Dunsmore married #2 wife Sarah Humphreys Arritt (Sarah was a widow). Sarah Humphreys first husband Michael Arritt died 1845. Sarah married William Dunsmore 10-20-1846. I find this couple in 1850- Monroe Census: William Dunsmore 56 Farmer Born: Va. Sarah 39 Harvy J. 19 Laborer Petricus F. W. 12 (male) Josephine 9 William died before 8-20-1863, because Sarah Humphreys Arritt, Dunsmore married third husband: Thomas J. Reynolds. So I am looking for William Dunsmore first wife and mother to his children. Also would love to have William Dunsmore date of death. Thanks, Sandy in Ohio

The Monroe WV, rootsweb site has the marriages from 1799 to 1825 listed, and births for the years 1853 through 1858. Death records are listed for years 1853 and 1854. The site is : http://www.rootsweb.com/usgenweb/wv/monroe.htm Perhaps someone else can give you info as to where you might purchase books with the complete listing of the above. Phyllis
Dear Linda, the answer to your question is "no", of all the surnames I am connected to in Monroe Co., WV, the name "Moss" is not one of them. I was just looking something up in one of Larry Shuck's books and saw where a Moses Moss was a witness to an 1807 deed near Sweet Springs, Monroe Co., WV. A Moses Moss also married a Sally Hoke, daughter of Henry Hoak in the early-1800s in Monroe Co., Sally would be a connection to my family that I haven't followed up as it is a 1/2 relationship through my "Daugherty" line. Good luck with your research. Dorothy Miller damiller@inetone.net
I have found references stating that during the Civil War several ancestors had enlisted in a military group called the "Scouts," apparently organized in Monroe County. Does anyone know anything about this group or where I can find further information? I believe that it was a militia unit of some type but I have been unable to find any real information about it. In a letter from Kyle McCormick, Publisher of the Princeton Observer to my grandmother, Mercedes McCormick: " John McCormick married Susan (should be Susannah) Dowdy in Rocky Mount in Franklin County in 1836...He left and came to Monroe County about 1840-was a fairly prosperous miller with a large family-a son John, a renegade just about broke up the family when he killed a Dr. Dunn in a fight at a dance when Dunn insulted a sister." I don't have any other information than above, but thought you might like the anecdote. Mercedes Murphy
