Dear Listers; Recent talk about look-ups for locations jogged my memory & I remembered one of the neatest "aids" I ever found for my WVA genealogy. Was/were County Highway maps from WVA dept of highways! Have you got them yet? Got mine by mail... show homes, cemeteries, (modern day) creeks,,,they're wonderful! Not very expensive, either.....tho I got mine in 88. Ask for price list from: WVA Dept of Highways Planning Division Map Sales 1900 Washington Street, East Charleston IN 23505 (304) 348-2868 (in 88) Maps available over the counter (for those of you lucky enough to be near there) at the above address from 7:30 to 4:00 daily, except Sat., SUn, & holidays. 18x36 in maps (1"=1mile) were only $1.00 each when I got mine.; plus about $2. to mail them in a tube. The 1880 Greenbrier Census lists John Simmons, age 24, Sarah C, age 25, Anna Belle, Age 4; Emma J.E, age 2; and Minnie Birk, age 6 mos. John Simmons died 27 Nov 1896, at age 42, killled by #34 train. His birthdate, 1854 ca. They had several children, perhaps as many as 10. Other known children, Diney E Simmons born ca 1895, Ada A Simmons born Apr 1889, and Albert Simmons. After John's death, Sarah Simmons married James A Bowyer , son of James A Bowyer and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Thomas. James and Sarah married 15 Dec 1898, she age 44 and he age 37. Sarah died 30 Dec 1927, age 73 of TB at Hinton. James was married previously to Louisa Fannie Persinger on 6 Jun 1874, he age 19, she age 22. Re: John Walker, 1805, Monroe Co. [W]VA New Information: I have been looking for the parents of the Jane Walker who married John Alderson III in January 1805. Tradition had previously said her father was Thomas Walker. Further research showed this was not likely. While searching in LDS microfilm tape 1710510 Loose Marriage Documents, Monroe County WV, 1800-1812 File 1, Jacket 532, I came across the document of Jane's father giving permission for the marriage. His name is John Walker. Now I belong to another line of the family! Does anybody know this John Walker and his line? Juhling McClung

RE: JOHNSON. I am a ggg-granddaughter of Susannah Johnson born 1760 VA, married 1773 in St Thomas Parish-Albemarle/Orange Co.VA to Stephen Eastin -born 1756 in VA. He served in Rev War. After War, they moved to KY where Susannah died in 1797 when her youngest son, my ancestor ,was six months old. The Johnson family was from Rockingham Co., VA but have been unable to find her lineage or siblings. Can anyone help? Thanks. Shirley

Does anyone know anything about this Church or the Hutchison's (5 of Samuels boys were preachers) who ministered there? According to Brethren in Virginia by Sappington, in 1843, Spruce Run Church was organized in Monroe County (still an active church to date).
