Hello everyone, My name is Mary Alice Brown and I've been doing genealogy for 10 years, since I took a course through the community education class here in College Station, TX. Since then, I've been researching my line and my husband's line at the same time!!! I have recently been working on the surname of GARTIN/GARTEN's. My husband's line begins with his greatgrandmother, Eliza Milinda GARTIN, b. 22 Jul 1874 MO. Her father was Parkinson GARTIN, b. in Decatur Co, IN. His father was Allen GARTIN, b. Nov 1822/1823 in Monroe County. I have found out who Allen's parents/siblings were by looking at other websites and homepages. But as yet, I haven't found exact proof of Parkinson-Allen-or Parkinson's mother/siblings. Family lore suggests that Allen was 1st cousin to Davy Crockett, but you know how that goes!!! (GRIN, GRIN) Any leads would be most appreciative!! Sincerely, Mary Alice

Looking for information on John Canterbury, b c 1788 the son of John and Nancy Lowe Canterbury. On September 15, 1808 he married Polly Locket as documentd in the Monroe County Marriage Records. This family ended up in Giles County, Virgina where John was a minister. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Willing to share information on John's siblings. Thanks, Cathy
Looking for information/descendents of Mary Canterbury, b 1787 in Monroe County or Greenbriar County VA, the daughter of John and Nancy Lowe Canterbury. She died October 14, 1858 in New River, WV. She married George Stephenson, Jr. June 13, 1805 in Monroe County, Va. Their marriage is documented in the Monroe County Marriage Records. Both Mary and George are buried at the Keaton Cemetery near Greenville in Monroe County. This is all the information that I have on either of these people. Thanks for any help that any of you may give me. Cathy
Hi Everyone, I am trying to locate information/descendents of Zadock Canterbury, born c 1797, son of John and Nancy Lowe Canterbury. Information that I have indicates that Zadock married Marcina Snow about 1840 and moved from Monroe County to Roane County where he died November 15, 1886. The 1860 Roane County census indicates that Zadock and Marcina had 7 children with at least 3 born prior to the marriage date of 1840. I am questioning this marriage date. Also believe that Zadock had a son named Zadock who married Mariah Jane Campbell January 10, 1848. The 1870 West Virginia Index indicates that there was a Z. Canterbury, age 69, male, white, living in Walton Township, Roane County, WV. There is also a Zadock Canterbury, age 45, male, white living in Forest Hill Township, Monroe County WV. I believe that Zadock was the son of Z Canterbury. Are there any researchers/descendents of Zadock Sr. or Jr. on this list. If so, I would be most interested in talking to you. Thanks, Cathy

Hello all, Please let me introduce myself. My name is Rock S. Kauser, and I have been researching my Monroe Co. and Greenbrier Co. connections for the past fifteen years. The main Monroe/Greenbrier lines that I descend from include CAMPBELL, HONAKER, NICELY, QUICK, TAPP, WAID, WISEMAN, and YATES just to name a few.
