Davis' book, "Giles County, Virginia, 1860 Census, Family Histories-Births-Marriages-Deaths Annotated," there is quite a bit about the Thomas J. Hobbs (Household #557) family. "Thomas is the son of James & Mary (Dollard) Hobbs. James md Mary, 22 Apr 1799 in Bedford Co. VA, d/o Reuben Dollard." The annotation provides information about Thomas' wifes, Juliana Duncan and Martha Jane Larew. The annotation also provides spouses for some of Thomas' siblings. I don't know which of James and Mary's children you descend through...might this be helpful? Cara

I would like to introduce myself. I am new to this newsletter. I am currently researching Wiseman tied to Neals, Ramsey tied to Neals, Legg tied to Neals, and Ryan tied to Neals. I would appreciate information that may help from anyone out there. I am a bit fuzzy about the boundaries and lines of demarcation that apply in that part of the state and the years the counties were dissected. I am most familiar with the northern panhandle of West Virginia. Joyce Fluharty
I have a listing of the graves in Peterstown Cemetery. What names are you looking for? Peterstown has always been part of Monroe Co. The interesting thing though is that Peterstown Cemetery is part of Giles Co, VA. David At 08:05 AM 3/26/99 EST, you wrote: |Does anyone has a listing for the markers in Peterstown Cemetery. David: Thanks for the reply. I am researching the Thomas family. I'm pretty sure that an Andrew Woods Thomas (d. 1942) in buried in the Peterstown Cemetery. I am wondering if his father James Woods Thomas is buried there also? Andrew Woods Thomas was married to Josie Lou Spangler. I believe there is lots of Spangler's in the Peterstown Cemetery. Karen

Good evening, My ancestor, James HOBBS moved from Bedford County to Monroe County in 1820. He appears in Monroe County in the 1820 census. Does anyone know if the personal property tax list or land tax lists for Monroe County are on line anywhere for any of the years in the 1820's? At some point, he moved from Monroe to Giles, but I don't know what year. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Bill Hobbs
I know that flags were going off in my head on the names. Hoping some kind person out there can help. I am trying to confirm the birth of two twins on February 6, 1843. I'm pretty sure it was in Monroe County. One twin was named Newton Spangler.and the other I think was J. Huffton Spangler. I have the 1850 Census Microfilm on CD but find some of it very hard to read. Who were their parents?? Family information says Newton married Emma Spangler, daughter of Patrick Spangler?? J. Huffton Spangler married Jenny Shumate??? Other family rumor says their parents were Richard Spangler and Mandy Dunn. I can't find anything to give me any clues. The 1850 Census looks like there's a Newton, son of Charles D? Spanger and Catherine???. Just can't read it or the other children's names to see if there were twins. Any help would be most greatly appreciated!!! Karen
