It is a off-line for me. I come thru Hugh Caperton. Actually Sarepta Rosetta Caperton married my Henderson French Gore. His son John Alexander Gore married Sarah Louisa Rachel Martin. His daughter Ellie Leah Gore (my grandmother) married my grandfather - Louden Gilbert Lilly. My mother Edna Arnie Lilly married my father Carl Thomas Moten. My father was born in Summers County, WVA in 1916 and my mother was born in New Mexico, where my grandparents raised a family from 1905 to 1927, when they returned back to West Virginia to take care of aging parents. One of the worse mistakes that he made in his life. Their daughter, Elizabeth Caperton, born 3 June 1778 Monroe Co., (W) VA, married 12 Aug 1802 in Madison Co., KY William Archibald Brooks born Jan 1780 in TN, died 6 Oct 1820 Franklin CO., TN. Their daughter, Elizabeth Miller Brooks (her gravestone is in my sister's living room ready to be repaired) born 10 Sept 1813, Tennessee, died 28 March 1888 in Jack Co., Texas buried Springdale Cemetery near their ranch, and she married 3 Nov 1830 in Franklin CO., Tennessee James Porter Keith (born 5 Feb 1813),And, they moved to Texas before the Civil War-however, two of their sons died fighting in the CSA for Tennessee. Their daughter, Elizabeth Susan Keith (my g-grandmother) born 16 May 1841 in Franklin CO., TN -married 16 Sept 1863 in Palo Pinto CO, TX (near Jack CO.) to Newton Atkinson, Sr (born 26 Jan 1827) Bibb Co., ALA. Their son, Newton Atkinson, Jr, born 1874 in Jacksboro, Texas married 1895 to Minnie Minter Eastin born 1776 in Jacksboro, Texas . They are both buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Jacksboro, Texas near his parents-Newton Atkinson, Sr. Does this help? Shirley

Hi Sandra, There was a Phillips (or Billups) who married a Joseph Ballard in Monroe County in the 1800's. Do you have any info on these folks? Sorry, I don't recall the first name. Caroline [email protected]
Shirley, Unless I accidentally erased it, I don't have record that I answered your e-mail of 5/15/99 re the Maggert/Maggard surname. Thanks for responding to my "Names being Researched" message on the WVMONROE List. You said that "Maggert/Maggard name is part of my Adam Caperton....who married Elizabeth Miller - daughter of Jacob Miller Jr born 1726 in Pennsylvania and Elizabeth Fudge." Are you saying that you ancertor was named Adam Caperton Maggert/Maggard? OR, just that Elizabeth Fudge's mother may have been a Maggert/Maggard? Maggert/Maggard is certainly is an unusual enough name that these famillies must be related. Also, I've run across the Fudge name before, too, but can't remember where. Keep in touch. ...jane

Thanks for the information on this marriage. The dates seem to match. I did locate James W. Thomas on the 1880 census with wife Mary. James' age was 41 (b. 1839) and Mary age 37 (b. 1843). The information on the marriage of James Wm. Thomas on 24 Dec 1873 in Greenbrier has the groom age 35 (b. 1838) and Mary M. Lewis age 32 (b. 1841). Does anyone have more information on this marriage - who were the parents?? My initial query was for marriage information on: James Woods Thomas, b. 1838 in Greenbrier wife Mary McCreary b. 1843 ??? in 1880 they were in the Union District of Monroe County. Thanks! Karen
