Hi Guys. I have a James A. Wood, born I think in Campbell County, VA. Parents were James Wood and Irene ______. He was suppose to have married my Angeline Moten (Morton/Moton) in Monroe County, 21 May 1879 at Sinking Creek, Monroe County, WVA. Does anyone have any information on the Wood family, or even on this marriage. Angeline parents were my great grandparents - James W. Moten (Morton) and Lucy M. Sowder (possible first name Lucinda). Angeline was born 1857/1859 in Montgomery County, VA.

I am seeking family and ancestral information for the family of Mark H. Spangler (bc 1825; VA?) of late 1800s Monroe Co., WV. What I'm trying to find out, specifically, is where they came from, who Patrick married (no wife was included in the 1880 Monroe Co. census), when/where they were born/died and any info at all concerning their son Fletcher (bc 1859/60), who later moved to the Ada area of Mercer Co., WV. Did Fletcher ever marry? Or have children? When/where did he die? Any info at all on the aforementioned people would be very much appreciated. Thanks very much, Bob

I am still trying to figure James Robinson in the 1850 Monroe. I think this is James Rollyson family of Elizabeth Rollyson b/c she is no where to be found in the 1850 and her future husband is a few doors away. There are many other errors in this book, on the same page Thompson GARTEN is backwards, and Bird Woodrum is called Richard! and I have the film that clearly says Bird! Could James Robinson, Jr. 46 with wife Eliza 39 be the James Rollyson I am looking for? AND, they are in the 1860 as ROLLISON!!! same kids children eliz 18 Sarah 16 Paterson 12 Amanda 9 Emily 6 eliza 1 1860 census shows James W. Rolison 56, Eliza 49. Sarah 25, Amanda 18, Emily 15, Eliza 11?, Allen 7. Next door James Rolison 20 and Adeline 23. These are a couple of Armstrong and Nancy Woodrum's Children: Richard M. Woodram m/ Eliza Rollyson d/o James W. & Eliza May 14, 1874. Miriam A Woodram m/ Allen N. Rollyson s/o James W. & Eliza Jan. 1, 1873. Believe JP is James Paterson, and Miriam A is Amanda! Please excuse the abrupt ending on my e-mail. I hit the "send now" key by error. I have only one other thing to add....my surnames in Monroe County are: LEACH MANN (especially Leach Mann) Thanks for the opportunity to introduce myself. I would love to hear from my cousins still living in Monroe County, especially those decinding from Joshua Leach. Roy L. Leach 3701 Cimmaron Trail Fort Worth TX 76116-6814
Hi all from Texas I am Roy L. Leach, [email protected], and as you can see, gen as in geneaolgy describes my interest in Monroe County, WV. I descend from William Leach from Prince Edward County, VA, and from one of his 9 (?) children...Matthew who came to then the Sinks, Monroe County about 1787. Matthew and several of his brothers migrated to Lincoln County, KY about 1826. Matthew , with his son, John, next appeared as winners in the 1927 land lottery in Georgia. Their names apprear on as residents of Gilmer, Forsyth and Hall County, Ga, With Matthew last listed in the 1860 Forsyth County, GA census as residing in the house of John Leach, with age given as 104 years. I suspect a memory problem. So much for ancesters background. I was born in Atlanta, Ga on April 19, 1924, the first son of Willian Jason Leach and Ella Jane Lawson. I attended schools in Kansas City, MO, Gainesville, Hall County Ga. I graduated from the Univ of TX, El Paso, with a degree in accounting. I was invited to Texas by Uncle Sam in 1942, and with the exception of three absent periods in Saipan and Korea, I have in Fort Worth ever since. I hope this brief biography fits your request for a self introduction. Other than the aboved, I currently have my wife, my four grown children and their offspring, and my genealogy as my sole interests
>As well as accepting text transcriptions of documents, can you also accept a >scanned copy of the document? If so, what is the preferred format: GIF, >JPG? > >--Celia > Celia, This is something new for us & I understand that space for scanned documents is limited. Let me copy & paste an exerpt on how it works for you. To view the entire list of guidelines for submitting material visit this web page http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/timetodo.htm (begin quote) 9. We are now able to store scanned images of primary source documents, but must be cautious about the size and quality, as well as the genealogical value of those documents. Before uploading any images in this category, check with the Archives coordinator or the assistant coordinator. All graphics are to be uploaded to the "archive_html" directory, the same one that holds your state or county tables of contents. Placing scanned images in the Archives on a selective basis permits us to provide documents to researchers which can be deeply treasured. However, placing any and all images that are submitted for the Archives can quickly eat up the disk space that the limited resources of RootsWeb have been able to procure for our use. Accordingly, I propose that the following guidelines be established: Scanned images of genealogical documents may be posted in the Archives. Such documents should have "heirloom" or sentimental value, such as marriage certificates, Bible records, hand written wills, etc. These documents should be accompanied by a transcription so that the names will be available in the USGenWeb Search Engine. Images which consist of a list of names should be posted in their transcribed form only. Every effort should be made to post scanned images in the smallest size possible. Contributors should be asked to submit images which meet the following criteria: Use GIF and JPEG images instead of BMP Limit the width of the files to 500 pixels or 7 inches Scan images at 300 dpi or less Use 16 shades of gray or less (End quote) Celia, if you think your document would fit these requirements, let me know & I will contact the right person to get the ok to go ahead with it. Thanks for this great question! Jeannie

Hi Bill, Celia and All, We have made contributing files to the Archives as easy as possible. :) First, visit the USGenWeb Archives Project Guidelines at <http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/timetodo.htm>. Here is a possible list of documents that can be submitted. You can submit your documents either on-line or by email. We have GenConnect Boards set up so that you can easily copy and paste while on-line. These boards are available at <http://www.rootsweb.com/usgenweb/wv/wvfiles.htm>. Or you can submit them directly to the Archivists by email. Scanned images of documents may also be considered if there is also a text transcription to go along with it. Anyone out there researching the Erskines of Monroe County who married or was born in the timeperiod 1810-1870s? I'd be interested in seeing if mine connects to yours. --Celia
Anyone out there with a John Hutcheson that would be an adult in 1832/1833 Monroe County? I have a John Hutcheson and a Jno. Hutcheson Jr. as witnesses on marriage bonds in 1832 and 1833. I would be curious to know if he was a former Rockbridge County, VA resident as is the other witness or if he has any connection to surnames Egnor, Agner, Erskine, Forren/Forehand. Thanks. --Celia
