Sherry, The family moved to Marshall County in the early 40s. Papa was a supervisor of guards at the Moundsville. State Pen from then until the late 50s when he passed. Uncle Bob stayed on in the Old Homestead up Old field Branch and it burned in the late 40s or early 50's. This is what I remember of the place: It was a big house with a big front porch and a hill in the front that we rolled down. Across the hollow lived a Parsons family and I remember playing with their kids. There were alot of them. Aunt Hattie lived back toward 52 just around the bend in the road on the right on the way out. Aunt Ivory lived on the left closer to 52 and I believe Joe Bunt was the house closest to 52. The General Wayne Meade and Virginia Burgess family consisted of oldest to youngest: Uncle Earl, My father-Wendell Edward, Then Uncle Billie who died as a child, then Uncle Bob, Uncle Luther, Aunt Laura, Aunt Ruby, Uncle Wayne, and Uncle Jack. Interresting story is that Aunt Laura had a sister named Ruby Jo and ended up marrying an Army flyer named Joe Ruby. They were all raised up Old Field Branch and Uncle Jack, who was the youngest, would have been around 14 when they moved. Uncle Earl was the only other one who remained in the area and had a TV shop in Lovely, Ky for a while. He has since passed as have my father and Uncle Wayne. The rest are still alive and kicking from Virginia Beach to Cleveland to Williamson. You were right about Sam Davis and Aunt Hattie but there was an Uncle Joe Fults in there somewhere. Thanks, Harry PS if you do get in touch with Uncle Bob tell him you've been in contact with Eddie. My middle name is Edward after my father and I was always little Eddie growing up. He might not know who Harry Is. -----Original Message----- From: Sherry Bell [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: May 25, 2000 3:13 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [WVMINGO] Meade/Old Field Branch I just got off the phone with my mother who was raised on Old Field Branch and she remembers Bob Meade. She also remembers a Hattie and "Sam" Davis. Hattie's maiden name was Meade. Right across the street from my mothers house lived an "Ivory" (I remember Ivory too) Davis who was a Meade before she married Nick Davis, but they divorced early in their marriage, Ivory raised 6 children there alone. Mom thinks the cemetery you are looking for is about half way up the holler, on the left hand side.
