    1. Re: [WVMINGO] MINGO RECORDS???
    2. Ullom
    3. Freda, My dad was born in Mingo county and was told he could not get a birth certificate because they were destroyed in the fires and floods. One day my mom wrote to the capital in Charleston and they sent her a copy of his birth certificate! The Archives in Charleston is really a GREAT place to do research. They have census records, marriage records, birth records, newspapers, etc for most of the counties in the state (I found my grandparents marriage certificate on microfilm there... Mingo county 1913). The Archives and History Library is opened Monday-Friday: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Saturday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. They close for state holidays and were doing some remodeling last fall (hopefully that is finished now). Their phone number is 304-558-0230. If you go there take plenty of change for the parking meter (I ususally try to park in the lot right next to the center but it can fill up fast). Below is some information taken from their brochure (pick one up if you visit - it's GREAT). Good Luck! Debbie Ullom ------ Directions: (taken from one of their brochures - "The West Virginia State Archives is located in the Cultural Center which is part of the State Capitol Complex. From Interstate 64/77, take Exit 99 (State-Capitol/Greenbrier Street). There is limited, metered parking at the Capitol Complex.
