1. Re: [WVMINGO] Varney surname
2. Hi Elizabeth, Try this: Mingo County WVGenWeb Archives You'll find some birth/marriage/death records for Mingo Co and the 1900 1910 and 1920 Mingo Co Census. I'm in the process of going through the 1910 looking for my ggrandparents (Robert Lee and Drucilla Norabelle Wilson HALE). The actual census pages are scanned and available online. I haven't found a surname index online, so I have been going page by page---arrrggghhh! I have seen MANY Varney families on this census. I also have a VARNEY in my family--Oliver Wendell Holmes VARNEY. I can't remember the connection right now, but he's in my files. I'm told that after their marriage they lived in Mingo County where some of their children were born. My grandfather, Wesley ( b. 1880 d.1935 m. Elizabeth Turner around 1908), was their son. I can trace the Varney line back many generations, but I can't locate the names and dates of birth of all the children of Matt and Mary. The names I have are: George, John, Wesley, William , Sam, Cora ( m. ?Givens), Cindy (m. ?Woods), Effie "Jody" ( m. Charlie Turner ) and Maud ( m. ?Hendshaw). I don't know if this is a complete or accurate list. I would be most grateful to anyone who could provide information on this line. >>
