Hi Rick, All of the Elkins families in Logan and Boone counties were descendants of one of three brothers, or else they were descendants of a cousin of those brothers. The three brothers were Richard Elkins born about 1768 (married Nancy Leslie McGuire), Zachariah Elkins born about 1764 (married Rachel), or William Elkins born about 1772 (married Ann). The cousin was Absalom Elkins born in 1791. Absalom Elkins' father was a first cousin of Richard, Zach, and William. Do you have any idea who the parents were of Daniel P. Elkins who was born about 1833? Was that your Aunt Essie's father? I haven't researched that Daniel Elkins at all, but I'm guessing that he was probably a grandson of Zach, William, or Richard. Daniel was age 17 in the 1850 Boone County census, living with Andrew Workman (age 36) and family (also living there was Nancy White age 92), and not living particularly close to any other Elkins family. But even if he was, it might not mean much, since the children of Richard, Zach, and William married each other in some cases. I've thought about looking at all of the Elkins families on the 1840 census who had a son less than 10 years old, then trying to narrow the choices down through elimination, but I never got around to doing that. I know that your research is on the Mullins line, not the Elkins line, but I just wondered if you might by chance know more about Daniel P. Elkins. My grand uncle Golden Mullins married Essie Elkins of Boone Co. Aunt Essie was a descendent of that Daniel P. Elkins of Boone Co. and her mother was a Stone. I wonder if the Boone Co. Elkins and Logan Co. Elkins are the same outfit?
Oops, I caught a typo after I sent my last message. Absalom Elkins was born in 1781, not 1791. Vanessa
