Dora Gibson Hammontree OAK HILL - Dora Gibson Hammontree, 71, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at home, following a long illness, with her family by her side. Born March 21, 1933, at Lenore, she was the daughter of the late Henry Floyd and Carrie Lee Sturgell Floyd. Mrs. Hammontree was of the Baptist faith and was lead cook for "A Place to Grow." Many remember Dora's smiling face at the Skyline Drive Inn at Hilltop and she will truly be missed. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping and the beach. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her companion, Earl "Red" Burgess; and two brothers, Blackburn Floyd and Bill McGuire. Survivors include her three daughters, Gail and her husband, Steve Vaynes, of Oak Hill, Cathy and her husband, Mark Hundley, of Sumter, S.C., and Barbara and her late husband, Dennie Jeffries, of Fayetteville; two sons, Carlos and his wife, Myrrl Gibson, of Oak Hill and Haskel and his wife, Tammy Gibson, of Kincaid; four sisters, Kathryn and her late husband, Robert, of Chester, her twin sister Flora and her husband, Leonard Thompson, of Varney, Janice and her late husband, William Canterbury, of Wickliffe, Ohio, and Rita and her husband, Andrew McNeely, of Robson; three brothers, Theodore and his wife, Marie Floyd, of Delbarton, Donald and his wife, Juanita Floyd, of Robson and Rush Jr. and his late wife, Ann Floyd, of Chester; grandchildren, Tera and Erik Smith, Rebecca Vaynes, Nicholas Vaynes, Sara and Mark Gilkey, Pamela and Michael Raynes, Sherley and Danté Scruggs, Carla Gibson, Carlos Gibson Jr., Candace Gee, Tara Kincaid, Justin Gibson, Barbara Gibson, Chace Gibson, Melissa and Michael Kees, David Cox, Amy Edwards, Timothy Hamilton and Rocky Hamilton; 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Jeff Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.
