Ron You are getting through OK here. BUT, I have seen a number of people on differing RW lists over the past week who seem to be having the same problem you announce. Listowner, is there something systemic going on at RW since their last wibble wobble? barbjo ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

Thought I would pass this along for all our relatives looking for clues on where we came from. Semper Fi, Mary Ann ESTABLISHING COUNTRY OF ORIGIN FROM SURNAME You can sometimes establish a country of origin from a surname. You can even place uncommon surnames within a specific province or county. To find the origin of your family name (assuming it wasn't changed when your family immigrated to another country), go to your public library and search the shelves for surname books. These books are usually divided by country. Some surnames can be hard to find. Occupational names are often the most difficult because the names could have been translated from almost any language. Examples of these are Miller (a flour mill operator), which could have been translated from Muller, Moeller, or Mueller and which could have come from almost anywhere in Germany; Collier (meaning coal miner) could have come from almost any area of England, Wales, or Europe where coal mining was prevalent. Check the surname books for suggestions, but remember that the name could have originated in another country. - -------------------------------------------- Diana J. Ron, According to my WV Atlas and Gazetteer (by De Lorme and copyright 1997) there is no town of Rich Creek in WV (though there is a town by this name in Virginia). There are several entries for the "water body" of Rich Creek. Two are located in Kanawha county: One near Youngs Bottom and Falling Rock, one near Guthrie (not too far from Charleston) One in Wayne county: near Kiahsville and East Lynn Lake. One in Fayette county: near county line with Nicholas County at Beech Glean One in LOGAN county (probably what you are looking for): south of Lyburn goes through Rita and Don One in Mercer county: Sand Gap, Beeson, over to Spanishburg One in Monroe county (near the boarder with Virginia.. not far from the town of Rich Creek, VA): Between Peterstown and Lindside. Hope this helps! Debbie -----Original Message----- From: R.E.B. <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Monday, April 10, 2000 10:07 AM Subject: [WVMINGO] RICH CREEK ???
