    3. Okay Sherry, I remember seeing this cemetery on the side of the hill down by Oldfield Branch, but I didn't go up to this one. Sorry about that. But the other cemetery that I sent is also considered a Davis cemetery, the one that is on Oldfield Branch up the holler. k -----Original Message----- From: Sherry Bell <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Thursday, May 25, 2000 8:39 AM Subject: [WVMINGO] 2 more Davis Cemetery Transcriptions >These are the two Cemeteries that I have pictures for. 3. This Davis Cemetery is halfway up on the left hand side. The Meade Cemtery is also on the left hand side above the Davis Cemetery and I know that Bob Meade owns this land, but I don't know about where the Davis Cemetery is. Then at the mouth of the holler on the right beside a house in their yard is another cemetery that looked newer and not very big, I don't know who is buried here nor the name of this cemetery. k -----Original Message----- From: Sherry Bell <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Thursday, May 25, 2000 7:16 AM Subject: Re: [WVMINGO] Meade/Old Field Branch >I just got off the phone with my mother who was raised on Old Field Branch >and she remembers Bob Meade. 3. My mom remembered a lot of the people from the cemetery that you sent. I sent a copy to my uncle who lives up there that wanted it too. Maybe I can talk him into taking photos from that one also. 1. [WVMINGO] STAR and COLLIER genealogy
    2. Neil Nelson
    3. Since we are discussing STAR cemeteries, and especially since there seem to be several STAR descendants on this list, perhaps it is time for me to repost the information I am seeking. My wife is a granddaughter of Alice Alma HENSLEY (b. 1 JUL 1899 Mingo County, WV, d. 25 SEP 1981, Montgomery County, Ohio). Of all the trees I am researching, I probably have the most to learn about Alice and her ancestors. Alice was the daughter of William HENSLEY (b. ?, d. 1913, WV) and Laura DEMPSEY (b. abt 1879, Logan County, WV, d. abt 1955 Kermit, Mingo County, WV). Williams parents were Green HENSLEY (b. 1853, Logan County, WV, d. ?) and Elizabeth STAR (b. ?, d.?); Laura's parents were Sanford DEMPSEY (b. ?, d. ?) and Elizabeth COLLIER (b. ?, d. ?). I have found a little bit of information on the HENSLEY and DEMPSEY lines (although I could always use more!), but I know absolutely nothing about the STAR and COLLIER lines, beyond what I have written above. So if any of you have any additional information to share, I would be most grateful! -- Neil K. 3. I just got off the phone with my mother who was raised on Old Field Branch and she remembers Bob Meade. She also remembers a Hattie and "Sam" Davis. Hattie's maiden name was Meade. Right across the street from my mothers house lived an "Ivory" (I remember Ivory too) Davis who was a Meade before she married Nick Davis, but they divorced early in their marriage, Ivory raised 6 children there alone. Mom thinks the cemetery you are looking for is about half way up the holler, on the left hand side. 3. Merhaba Sherry, (That's hello in Turkish) My Great grandmother on the Meade side was a Davis. Uncle Joe and Aunt Hattie Davis lived up Old Field Branch when I was a kid. Although I was raised in Marshall Co., WV I spent every summer in Mingo until I was 12 years old and have visited many times since. My uncle Bob Meade lived at Winco Block then and now lives in Williamson. He was a basketball coach and principle at Chatteroy when it was still a High School and after when it was a Jr High. Prior to living at Winco Block Uncle Bob lived in the Old Homestead up Old Field Branch. It was the house that my father and all my aunts and uncles, (Meade), were raised in. The cemetary that you refer to was just down and to left of the house if you were standing on the front porch looking down the hallow. I think my Uncle Billie is burrried there. He died when he was a child. The house burned to the ground when I was 4 or 5 years old but Uncle Bob kept a shack up there as a get away. I believe my Uncle Luther of Cantan, Ohio still owns the property but I'm not sure. I would be very interrested in the index of the cemetary. The last time I saw it it was in pretty bad shape. As I said my Uncle Bob (James Robert Meade) still lives in Williamson. He has a letter that William Bingham Meade wrote to George Washingtom asking for payment for some horses that were commandeered during the revolution. I don't have his phone number with me right now but he is in the book and has alot of knowledge about our roots. Give him a call and tell him I said hi. There is another cemetery on up father on Old Field Branch that has more Meade's in it, it is on the same side of the road under some pine trees, that has been indexed also. k -----Original Message----- From: Sherry Bell <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Wednesday, May 24, 2000 5:55 AM Subject: [WVMINGO] Meade/Old Field Branch >Hi Harry, >I am not related to you that I know of but wanted to let you know that my >grandmother still lives on Old Field Branch. 3. The 1850 Census of Logan Co. has Isaac Jr. in household #452 and I have 5 children for him, there were probably more. Anthony,Matilda, Aaron, Mark Allen and Isaac. Sarah (Sallie) Roark, 1768 - 1861 (notice the age - died at 93 !!!) had 3 marriages, John Deskins, Isaac Brewer and Emile Millard. Sallie was daughter of Timothy James Roark, 1740 Stokes Co., NC, 1811 Grayson Co. and Rachel ? . Their were 8 children of this union. Timothy James was son of Timothy O'Roark (possibly Ireland) 1700 - April 1769 Frederick, VA, and Sarah. There were 14 children of this union. Timothy James had a will probated June 15, 1811. He was on the 1782 Montgomery Co. Tax List and the 1802 Tazewell Tax List. I descend from Sallie through John Deskins and Rebecca Holt, and Sallie and Emile Millard through dau. Rachael Millard and James Starr - 1798. In Ragland's History of Logan Co., he it says that James had no children, but I have Martha 1812 - 1814 married Andrew Dempsey, my and Peggy's ancestors, James Jr. and Rebecca 1816. If anyone has info on James and Rebecca, would appreciate having it. James Starr was in the 1850 Census of Logan with Joseph A. Dempsey in household, he was his grandson, son of Martha Starr and Andrew Dempsey. Diane Shortridge Reed
