Hi Kim, Winnie Rowe who married John Elswick is Emily Rowe's sister. Do you have the genealogy for John Elswick. I think I have their children. I will have to go back and check on what I have. I wish I had Winnie's Mother's name. Her father was John Rowe. I also have her brothers and sisters. I have some Mary Terry's but they were born in Wayne co. W.Va. I will keep an eye out for your Mary. Thank you, Jean Collins Terry
Hi Elizabeth, Try this: Mingo County WVGenWeb Archives You'll find some birth/marriage/death records for Mingo Co and the 1900 1910 and 1920 Mingo Co Census. I'm in the process of going through the 1910 looking for my ggrandparents (Robert Lee and Drucilla Norabelle Wilson HALE). The actual census pages are scanned and available online. I haven't found a surname index online, so I have been going page by page---arrrggghhh! I have seen MANY Varney families on this census. I also have a VARNEY in my family--Oliver Wendell Holmes VARNEY. I can't remember the connection right now, but he's in my files. Kim Lint Cuyahoga Falls OH [email protected] In a message dated 9/21/00 4:12:36 PM Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: << I'm looking for information on the children ofArtillis Madison "Matt" Varney ( b. 1854 in Pike County, Ky.) and Mary "Polly" May Varney (m. 1875 in Roane County )....Matt was the son of Asa (who had a younger brother also named Madison who married Piety Staton) and Louisa "Vicy" Varney. I'm told that after their marriage they lived in Mingo County where some of their children were born. My grandfather, Wesley ( b. 1880 d.1935 m. Elizabeth Turner around 1908), was their son. I can trace the Varney line back many generations, but I can't locate the names and dates of birth of all the children of Matt and Mary. The names I have are: George, John, Wesley, William , Sam, Cora ( m. ?Givens), Cindy (m. ?Woods), Effie "Jody" ( m. Charlie Turner ) and Maud ( m. ?Hendshaw). I don't know if this is a complete or accurate list. I would be most grateful to anyone who could provide information on this line. >>

> Which Terry family is in your line? Hi Jean William Slone (b. 1835) and Mary "Polly" Terry (b. 1837) are my GG-Grandparents. I don't have any info on Mary's Family. All I know is she was born in Tazewell Co., VA. I would love to have a copy of Friend and Emily's Marriage Cert. if I could figure out if they are related to Mary Terry. William and Mary's Slone's son, Epperson Slone married Mary Polly Goff, who is the daughter of Rebecca Ramey and Martin V. Goff. Rebecca Ramey is the daughter of James Madison Ramey who married Pricey Elswick who is the sister of John Elswick who married Winnie Rowe. After seeing your posts about Emily I started doing a little searching on her and found a web site that shows Winnie and Emily are sister's. If this is true, the Rowe's are not in my direct line, but married into the family and there probably is a connection between Friend Terry and Mary Terry. Do you have any info on Mary Terry???? Dear friends, I had to share with you the letter below on my Litton family. A large portion of my wall is finally coming down! Perhaps some of you can also benefit from these findings. Semper Fi, Mary Hello Mary Ann, . I will compile the data off line and send as an attachment. I can tell you this much now, You descended from Caleb Letton[Litton] b. 1678 in Ottery St. Marys, Devon Co. England He came to Maryland in 1700 as a soldier in the British Army and served 20 years, He received a warrant for 400 acres of land in Prince George County in 1722 [now Montgomery County Md.[Rockville] and married Grace Burton, in 1723. One of his sons came to Betourt Co. Va.[Staunton] in 1745 and married Sarah Ann Wilcoxen They are both buried in Russell Co. Va. They had 15 children, one of which was James Harvey Litton Sr b. 1789 Russell Co. Va. and married 3 times, he had 13 children total. You descend from the 3rd marriage of James to Mary Elizabeth Wilson. He had a saddle shop and livery[Harness] in the town of Lebanon, VA and sold it in 1842 and move his business to Pike Co. Kty They had 3 children, two boys and one girl. John Thomas Litton Elizabeth Litton Augustavis[Gus] William Litton Gus married a Taylor and produced several children, of which a son, James, produced your Ethel Litton, This is all for now, as I am doing this from memory and do not have the data base in front of me. The James you mentioned was a son of Gus Litton, etc. Gus died in the West Va. State Hospital for the elderly. I will try not to keep you waiting too long, have patients(sic) Canie Burns Litton Jr
Thank you so much Kim for checking for me. I have Friend and Emily Rowe marriage certificate. If Friend or Emily is in your line I will mail you a copy. Which Terry family is in your line? This is so much fun. There is a Friend S. Terry in Va. that left Virginia in by 1830 and then our Friend L. Terry showed up in Kentucky and married Emily Rowe. I think it is the same person. I like mysteries so I am hot on the track. Jean Collins Terry

Margie, I live in KY, the central part of the state. My hometown is Ashland which is across the river from Huntington, WV. As my mother lives there I do visit with her often; she is 86. My bro.s and I have been to Wayne Co., WV, researching James Parrot Wilson and his wife Sarah Mounts Wilson--m. 1795 in Bath Co. VA and relocated to WV in the late 1700's. Sarah had a bro. David Mounts whom some report to have married -----Cline and unverifed reports are that they lived in Mingo Co. and EKY. Sarah and David are reported to be part Cherokee. They were born in MD. Any ideas? Dee
