Ms. Hartman: Do you really feel comfortable distributing someone else's research? Ernie Moreland, who is a cousin of mine, travelled a great distance and spent over a week in Hampshire County and other places doing extensive research on our Moreland ancestors, digging through old records, etc., and has been generous enough to send me a copy of his research. I would never dream of handing out his hard-earned research without his prior approval. I have shared much of my own research with many individuals, but this is a good example of why many people, including myself, would not deposit their research in a public library. It is one thing for someone to use it for their own individual use, but to offer public distribution of someone else's hard work is just not kosher. It would be different if this were a work compiled 50 years ago and the author deceased, but this work is only about 3 years old, and the author is alive and well with, God willing, many good years ahead of him. I know I will probably get a lot of flack for my comments from others on this list, especially those who have only to drive a few miles to get their information, and, therefore, don't appreciate how some of us have to plan our trips well in advance and then travel hundreds of miles at considerable expense of time and funds.
