Thelma, Actually, there is a very small place called South Branch in Hampshire Co. It is a few miles ESE of Green Spring (SE of Oldtown, Md.), along the railroad tracks, just across the river from Allegany Co. In the heyday of trains, it was probably occupied by railroad workers. Apparently, it was also known as South Branch Depot at one time, and there was a post office there. If you want to see its location on a map, go to http://www-nmd.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html. Type in South Branch as the feature name, Hampshire as the county name, and select West Virginia as the state. You will get a few hits. Scroll down the map to where you can zoom in on it at the bottom.
