    3. If you know the death date and location you can get a copy of the death certificate from the state's vital records department. Usually, the death certificate shows, birth date & place, death date & place, maiden name (if married female), name of spouse (if married), residence, parents names and birth location, cause of death, and burial location (if they died after 1900). You will need to know in which state they died, in order to contact the correct vital records department.
