I have 4 questions. 1. Can some one tell me if the Lenape Indian tribe was ever in Hardy County? I have been told by a relative that he believes that our Fosters were part Lenape. How would one trace something like this? Below is what I have discovered to date: The first FOSTER I have found in Hardy County was Samuel Foster (age 45)on the 1850 census married to Martha, (?) age 41. If he was 45 years old that would make his birth year approximately in 1805. I do not have an exact date of birth or the date of his and Martha's marriage.Children were all born in what was then Virginia for the 1850 census. I believe in Moorefield. 2. I wish I did have their marriage info. If anyone can help me on this also I would appreciate it. Per 1850 Census: Dwelling # 747/756 Their first child, Hampton Foster was born in 1821. Daughter, Martha was born in 1826 Hampton b. 1821 Julia born b. 1830 Lucinda B. b. 1832 Sarah C. b. 1837 (?) Wesley Thomas b. 1838 Apoline V. b. 1842 Samuel b. 1846 Samuel and Martha were on the 1860 census with additional children listed: Dwelling #595/601 Hampton was then listed as Wm. Hampton, laborer, age 38 found on farm of Michael Cain The additional children were: Charles L. age 8 Susan age 7 (maybe child of Julia Ann ?) Jenny Lind age 3 (maybe child of Julia Ann ?) Martha, age 33, Daughter of Samuel and Martha, was found in household of Jacob Cook) Children listed here were: Francis M. Foster, age 6 (don't know if this was a male or female) Marietta age 1 Ann E. age 7 months Wonder if these were Jacob Cook's children with Martha. Samuel and Martha were not listed on the 1870 Census. Their daughter Julian Ann was then shown as head of household. There were also additional children listed by then: Mary age 4 born in Moorefield,WV Nellie age 1 born in Moorefield,WV Sallie Carrie age 3 months (this is my great grandmother)born in Moorefield WV, March 22 I assume this is when the counties broke into different counties. Family lore states that Sallie Carrie was orphaned at an early age. Did both Samuel and Martha die at the same time? I do not believe that they were Sallie's parents. 3. On her death certificate her parents were listed as Frank Foster and Julian Ann Foster. However no husband for Julia Ann was on any of the census reports that I viewed. I need to find Frank FOSTER. Can someome help me. Is Louisa, Virginia close to Moorefield during this time frame? Someone had told me they saw a Frank Foster on a list for Louisa. On the 1880 census none of OUR FOSTERS were listed in Hardy County. 4. I do not know where to look for them now. I know of 2 towns where they lived, Moorefield first then Sallie Carrie lived in Elk Garden, WV. Don't know if she is the only one who lived in Elk Garden. But that is where she met her husband, James LEVY and they were married in Keyser on June 26, 1887. Thanling you in advance, Marian L. Bonacci [email protected]
