    1. [WVMINERA] Off Topic: Nature vs. dreary day
    2. Lonny J. Watro
    3. I awoke this morning with a sinus headache only to discover the cause. A wet and dreary morning in the Mineral County area was causing my allergies to molds and mildews to flare up. As I moped to the shower, I dreamed of the day when I was retired and could sleep off this nasty headache. But, duty called and someone had to support our seniors and social security. I looked forward to the ending of this depressing day and hoped that tomorrow would bring some sun. On the way to work, I had difficulty getting my breath and found my klennex box was in the back seat - too far away for me to reach without putting my life in danger. So, I sniffed and sniffled, half noticing the interesting fog formations that hid the mountain tops. I was crossing the Potomac River into Keyser, still in a suffocating daze, when my heart was lifted by the sight before my eyes. From the west side of the bridge, I caught a glimpse of a flock of Canadian geese. There must have been over 50 of them in the traditional "V" formation. And, they were evidently following the path of the Potomac River from west to east. As I passed the center of the bridge the lead goose passed not more than 15 or so feet above my wind sheild. The rest followed, and I had just enough time to turn my head to the left and see the entire formation clear the east side of the bridge. My spirits soared, and I had to say out loud, "Wow, you don't see that everyday". I took a glimpse in my rear view mirror and caught the guy behind me craning his neck in the same way as I had done just an instance before. And, I smiled. My headache was beginning to dull, thanks to the Extra Strength Excedrine I had taken, and I had just witnessed a wonderful act of nature. Mother nature sometimes can brighten even the drearies days of November. Lonny J. Watro Short Gap, WV
