Patrick Miller "Pad" Dayton was born 11/2/1823, MD; died 9/15/1911, age 89y, 10m, 13d; mar. 9/9/1843, Allegany Co, MD, to Rachel M. (Knight), born 7/13/1823, MD; died 4/4/1903, age 79y, 8m, 22d; Her body was found in the spring house. Rachel was a daughter of Enoch Kight and Anna Hamilton Kight. Patrick's farm connected with taht of his father, over the hill. Pad donated the property for the building of the Dayton School and he and Rachel's house was in the field beyond it. The Dayton church was on the opposite side of the 21st Lane, but it burned down several years ago; probably destroying whatever records were there. Pop was very found of these grandparents and used to spend a lot of time there, helping out with the farm work. He used to tell me stories about going barefoot while working in the corn field. They used to get so cold that they would crawl inside the corn shocks to get warm. Patrick and Rachel are buried at Dayton Cem. 21st Bridge, Allegany Co., MD. Children: 1). Edward Taylor Crabtree 4). Anna Dayton, b. 6/3/1852; m. William Moses Greenwade 5). Horce R Dayton, b 6/ /1865, d. 1911; m. 11/3/1875, Allegany Co., MD, by Rev. Kight to Susan Virginia "Jennie" Dawson, b. 11/ /1854, d.ca 1913, dau of Andrew & Mary Dawson. Horce and Jennie lived first in Hampshire Co., then Westernport, in the Hammond Addition. Horce is buried in Philos Cem,, and Jennie is suppose to be there also, as she left money to the church to care for their lot. 6). Charles McClain Dayton, b 8/21/1862; m1, Carrie Fletcher; m2. Co., VA., m1, Caroline Culp, b. 7/29/1854, d. 2/28/1879, d/o John J. & Margaret Ann Culp, 3 children, d. 10/18/1922 Alaska, now Fort Ashby, Mineral Co., WV.; m2 12/28/1880 to Amanda Marie Wagn er, b. 12/25/1856, d. 7/26/1912, Pinto, WV; d/o Jackson J. Wagoner & Maria Barnes; All are buried at Headsville Cem., Mineral Co. Children: 1). Lucy Howard Dayton b 11/22/1872 m Harry Edmond Strieby. There are 9 children listed.
