My g-grandmother was born to James Henry FLEEK and Susan Jane UMSTOT Fleek. My g-grandmother had a number of handwritten entries in notebooks listing various relatives. Based on those notes, along with research and data obtained from other researchers, I believe my g-g-g-grandparents to be Jacob Fleek and Elizabeth Spencer. I have not gone upwards yet from Elizabeth Spencer, so would be very interested in any information in that line. The info I have shows Elizabeth Spencer (1813-?) (b. in VA) married Jacob Fleek (1813-1895), and together they had the following children: Thomas, Sarah C., James Henry, John W., Harriet, Margaret Lyn, Carlina or Caroline, and Jacob T. My g-grandmother had written Carlina instead of Caroline, but she was clearly referring to the same person. I am a bit confused by another handwritten entry in my g-grandmother's notebooks regarding Jacob T. Fleek, son of Jacob FLEEK and Elizabeth SPENCER, in that she listed Harriet LEASE as a spouse...but I haven't found anything yet to substantiate that information. There are a number of Susans and a number of Carolines in the Fleek and Spencer and Umstot families...so one has to be so careful when looking at the data. I never realized when I started this research how many many many hours I would spend... but I have to admit, I love it and am still thrilled when I find new information. :) Anyway, any help anyone can be would be appreciated. Also, I am cut and pasting a partial report that I have in my database, along with sources...but am still working on verifying several things, as you will see. (Also, I have several very old photos of unidentified people, but they were among Bessie FLEEK's things, and I believe them to be family members, since all the identified photos were of family members. A couple are tin-types and the others are from late 1800s. But I digress... Here's the report I printed out: (1) 1 Henry FLEEK[1], GGGG Grandfather, F420 - -------------------------------------- Birth: abt 1748[1] Janna Hall's Gedcom file listed Helen Benter as source of Henry's name.[2] Spouse: Susan (Maybe) UNKNOWN, GGGG Grandmother, U525 Birth: abt 1776, See notes Birth Memo: See notes Since according to 1860 census for Hampshire County, VA, a Susan Fleek (age 84) was living with Mr and Mrs Jacob and Elizabeth Fleek, perhaps Susan was Jacob's mother ? ? ? Possibly our Jacob? Or an ancestor of his?[4] Jacob & Susan reported death of Jacob Fleek, age 83, on 1-13-1895, which make it a strong possibility this is the right date of death for this Jacob. Research further. Janna's gedcom shows Jacob's birth as 1811 and date of death as 1/13/1895. Fleek, born 1853, living with Arthur and Elizabeth Fleek. Does that mean instead of Betsy Blackburn being g-g-grandmother, that Elizabeth UNKNOWN Fleek was my g-g-grandmother? I'm getting confused...lots more to research. There is also a Henry Fleck who in 1806 owned 18 1/2 acres at Cabin Run...wonder if he is a relative of James Henry Fleck. I don't know if all the siblings, except for Rachel, were fathered by Jim Flick. Susan's family owned a distillery. Had lots of money per Leoda. Other places: Gunnings Grove or Pinto. States: "Margret Virginia Flick was Riley. William Vause Flick Riley by her first husband. Samuel Riley." I assume that meant Margret had a son by the name of William Vause by her husband, Samuel Riley. But since Bessie wrote in the name Fleek as well as part of Williams' name, I am not sure.[6] Also, I found a William Vause Umstot listed as dying on 3/24/1870, death reported by Peter and Marg - Could it be the same person??[10] 1. Website on Family TreeMaker site uploaded by Janna Hall listing descendants of Peter Umstot and Rachel Goode and also descendants of Henry Fleek/Flick and Susannah Varner. Will contact Janna and attempt to get additional information, as well as sources. Intro to page read as follows: This page is for all the descendants of Henry Flick/Fleek and Susannah Varner of Pennsylvania. They moved to Virginia about 1792. Henry Flick's parents came from Prussia (Rhenish Palatinate) about 1750 and landed in New Jersey. Henry Flick settled in Somerset County (near Berlin) Pennsylvania and married Susan Varner, who came from Chambersburg, Pa. The date of their marriage is unknown, but Adam Flick, one of their sons was born October 11, 1776. Henry Flick and his wife, Susan Varner, moved from Somerset county, Pa., in 1795 and migrated to Hampshire County, Virginia (now Mineral County, W.Va.).
