In your MINERAL COUNTY, WV, query dated 08 May 1998, you requested information about my GGGrandfather THOMPSON ELZA, his wife SARAH WHITE, and their children which included SOLOMON ELZA, my GGrandfather. My mother was ALPHA HOLLIE ELZA, daughter of WILLIAM ALFRED ELZA who was a son of Solomon. Our ancestors THOMPSON, SOLOMON, and WILLIAM ALFRED ELZA are all buried in the same family graveyard. Only the grave of William Alfred Elza is marked with an inscribed headstone which is a crudely made panel of concrete with hand chiseled inscriptions. The graves of Thompson and Solomon are marked only by upright native stones without inscriptions. However,you can locate the grave of Solomon by going to the marked grave of my brother PAUL WAYBRIGHT who is buried right beside of Solomon. I don't know which of the unmarked graves belongs to Thompson. The graveyard is not fenced and is open to grazing livestock; it is also overgrown with mature trees. The graveyard is located in Dry Fork District, Randolph County, approximately one mile west of Whitmer, a very small village which is shown on most Rand McNally road maps. Access is by an unimproved dirt road which is privately owned(no longer by the Elza family) and is poorly maintained. The last 1/4 mile of the road is not passable unless with 4x4 vehicle. There are two male descendants of the Elza family who still reside in Whitmer. They are in their 60's or 70's and their names are: Dale Elza and Harrison(Buddy)Elza. If perchance these cousins have passed on, just ask any older local resident for directions to the old "Clay Teter/Curt Warner" farm. The road to the farm goes on through to the graveyard.
