His purported son, Amos Miller, had five children: James Robert, Bertha Estella, Lester Paul, Elmer Bruce, and Charles William. According to Connie (Miller) Howdyshell, daughter of James Robert Miller, there were two Stephen Millers, the younger one, by 20 years, was referred to by her father as Uncle Stephen. Uncle Stephen lived with Amos when the family moved to Virginia Avenue in Cumberland, MD. Connie, now deceased, was uncertain about the relationship between the two Stephens. The younger Stephen, born about 1820, died in Cumberland in the very early 1900s. Connie lived in Wiley Ford area of Mineral County, WV, on land originally homesteaded by James Robert Miller. Stephen Miller, born about 1800, appears with his first wife, and their children, on the 1850 census;in 1860, he was living with his second wife, Sarah, and their children. His brother James was deceased, and his wife and son lived with Stephen, as did Rebecca Miller, a sister of Stephen's who never married. Another known sister is Mary (Miller) McDonald. His purported son Amos appeared on the 1880 Muskingum County, OH, census with his wife, his daughter , Bertha, and his sister, Dora Miller.
