The library database FirstSearch shows the Piedmont Herald from 1890:1:11-1935:11:14> <1936:1:2- in the WV Newspaper Project--those might be available by interlibrary loan, but I haven't tried yet. There are also scattered issues of the Mountain Echo [Keyser] from 1876 on held by different libraries (only five)--including the Kansas State Historical Society (for some reason!). Patti are the copies you transcribed on the Mineral Co rootsweb.com? Pat
Winfield Scott Reed and his Wife Mary C. Liebig Leavy settled in Piedmont after they left Jefferson County, WV (Bolivar/Harpers Ferry area). Their children's names were Violet B. b. 1882, Daisy A. b. abt. 1885 d. 1906, Pansy J. b. abt 1888, Harry b. abt 1891, Arthur L. b. abt. 1893 and Marea A. abt. b. 1899. Anyone knowing information about this family would be appreciated. Thank you, Gloria
I have LaRue's from Mineral Co, and buriels in Westernport, Allegeny Co. Md. As far back as I can go is James Sebastian LaRue born in 1865 in Jefferson, Co. WV who married Teresa (Liebig) Leavy. They settled in Mineral Co, WV and had 7 children. If these LaRue's are yours, I would like to know more about your LaRue's. Gloria
Also, I transcribed the papers from the 1800's from WVU. As far as I know, I obtained copies of all they had there. Does anyone else know where there are any Keyser / Mineral Co papers prior to 1911? Patti
Thanks Patti, I was able to get a lot of good info from what was copied, but you know how it is, I'm really curious about what I missed. Thanks for letting me know about the microfilming. If anyone has any newspapers before 1911, and they would like to transcribe information from them or copy them for me to do so, I'm sure it would be appreciated by many. Hi Patti, I'm looking for a transcription of a wedding announcement on August 22, 1906. It was for Harry Temple Davis and Hattie Howard Dayton. In my father-in-laws papers we found the start of an article, hand copied, but some was torn off. Didn't say what paper it was in, but they were from Mineral Co. If you ever see it, pls let me know? Hi All, I finally made a trip to Potomac State to copy newspapers. I've decided to copy only the pages with obituaries included. I am also transcribing information on those pages that might help researchers. My first transcriptions are from July & Aug 1914, and can be found at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvminera/conewsaug1914.htm Enjoy, Patti
Check Garrett County Maryland for Larew. There is history of them owning a large lumber mill at Crellin (Garrett County), Maryland.
When looking for LaRue, be sure to try spellings as Larew. There were Larue's in Hampshire Co., WV and some of the Larue's in my genealogy left and went to Illinois, Iowa and Indiana. Hope your hand will not be injured all summer. What's up with the Geneological Society these days? Do you know? Have the made any progress creating a place to store records in Keyser, yet? So many thanks to everyone who has been so helpful. Every piece put in place to the giant puzzle that is a person's family history is a good and appreciated thing. It's funny, but up until a couple of years ago I thought I knew what knowing where I came from meant. Turns out I was wrong. Oh, I knew I had WV roots, but that was about it. Even though my immediate family has lived in Michigan for almost 100 years now, I really have begun to feel that I have so much more of a connection to WV. I've only been there once (last summer -- specifically to the Jane Lew area of Lewis county), but plan on many more trips starting with this August when I will be coming to Piedmont and then on back to Jane Lew again. Other places I'd like to go are Fairmont and Auburn. Oh well, just wanted to say thanks to you all. Hopefully, some day I'll be in a position to help someone else. Marylou, I am an Allen decendant also. I too have visited the Eusebia Cemetary. I descend through Arthur Allen. Would you like to exchange family information off the list? Lonny J. Hi Sorry I was slow ansering. I still have splint on hand following hand surgeries. My typing is often leaving lot to be desired. The WV State Archives has most WV newspapers on microfilm back about as far as that one went. If they don't have an issue, they are delighted to receive it. http://www.wvculture.org/history/wvsamenu.html The archives and history division is where microfilm newspapers are located. This is what it shows for the Herald: Piedmont Herald Piedmont January 11, 1890-December 1983; January 3, 1987-December 26, 1989 The historic preservation and/or archives and history may be interested in your works. You mention he was born in Lewis county - therefore your records may be of interest to someone in that area who may have been a cousin or something. Barb
