    3. My great-grandmother, Louella Jane Welch, was married to Jacob Sampson Oates. He was the son of Sampson Oates and Susan Kabrick. I believe Sampson (the father) was the son of Jacob Oats and a woman named Slonaker. Is anyone working on these lines? I have some names and approximate dates, but no source documentation. 3. Sam: I am working through the death information on all of the Welches, looking at death certificates where I can. There are often little tidbits there. It will be interesting if William F. Welch was a Union soldier. He will be the first in my family I have ever found, and I have been doing research into both my maternal and paternal lines for 20 years! There seems to be some of the Junkins/Welches who wandered off to Iowa for a while. Two of William's children were born there, but the last son, David O. [probably Oliver] was born in Mineral Co. in 1878 so they were definitely back by then. I'll keep sharing tidbits as I turn them up. I do not recognize your Junkins names. I have been sent "writings" that state John Junkins married Ruth Fitzwater and 2nd Elizabeth. Having researched for 57 years the entire FITZWATER surname (and published that work) I find no mention in any public record of any Ruth Fitzwater born around 1784 (or that era). I have sought proof of John Junkins marriges without success. Supposedly 1 male (James Hezekah Fitzwater born 1786) had 2 sisters, one named Ruth. I am seekng documented evidence of that. James' parents have not been identified. I am (stubbornly) looking for any document that will prove those "writings" to be FACT. In the past I have proven many "writings" have been in error (some of this descendancy). I am seeking proof this "statement" is fact. A court record, marriage record, a will. etc. - anything I could have overlooked.

    3. Sam: Thank you for all of the great information. Regarding William F. Welch, son of John and father of LuElla (or Ella) and Charles E.: On my grandmother's death certificate and that of her brother (Uncle Charlie Welch) Their father is listed as Ferdinand Welch. On both of the marriage records, he is William F. Welch. In both instances, the mother is Hester A. Was he William Frederick or William Ferdinand? Obviously, this is the same person, with the same wife and children! I've never seen the Ferdinand until recently. It should have been 1859. "Alice" from the Nellie Harvey story was Virginia A. age 1 in 1860 and "Alice V." age 11 in 1870. She married Neri Clark sometime after June 22, 1880, when she and her older sister Mary F. were counted as "nieces" (should have been granddaughters) in their grandfather Rev. William Junkins household. From Earlene Babcock's work on the Junkins- "A newspaper article that contains some interesting information on the Junkins family" (an interview with a gentleman by the name of Taylor Arnold) "The little girl you spoke of as named Alice; I think the name was Welsh instead of Evans. Her mother was a daughter of Uncle Billy Junkins and she lived with him quite a bit. She is the wife of N. Clark and is living yet. If I have made any mistakes I hope somebody will correct me." Earlene then asks the question- "(Could this little girl, Alice Welch, be the daughter of the Mrs. Welch that lived with Benjamin Junkins during the Civil war as written by his granddaughter Nellie? Benjamin and John W., the father of William M. Junkins, were brothers.)" -Earlene Babcock Indeed, it appears certain she was. -SJB 02/2004 ........... 3. I found a transcription error for my great-grandfather. They had his middle initial listed incorrectly. I can see from the original how the transcriber could have mistaken it. So you might want to look up what you already know and check it out for future generations. I sent them an e-mail and they were very appreciative to receive the correction.
