Click on the URL below, enter any of your names, and get some answers. This archives search is better than a lot of state archival searches. There is a lot of information there. Good luck! Hi, I've just posted Paula's transcriptions of the Aug 18, 1911 Tribune articles to the Mineral County USGenWeb Page. My same sediments Dan. Met you at the Lee reunion. Even though it's my grandparents that were brought up there, (not me). When I visit WV and western MD it never fails to captivate me. Debbie Husbands
One site that I like, for any area of the country, is http://www.usgenweb.com:80/statelinkstext.html. Go down, click on the state of your choice, then on the county of choice. If you know which county your ancestors came from, it would be a good idea check the archives of their mailing list by going to http://searches2.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl, type in the name of the mailing list and do a search on it. Don't know if they have a mailing list or its name, go to http://lists.rootsweb.com/, click on the state of choice, then find the county of interest and click on that to get the name of the list. This response hits home with me. I left home in 1971 and moved to TX. After a few years, I began migrating back to Almost Heaven, successively moving closer. I am now living in the DC area and looking for acreage to retire on in Mineral or Hampshire Co. I have roots there to the 1600s. I didn't discover the loooong roots until after my migration back was well under way. There is something about WV, subconscious or real, that brings you back. Within 10 years, I will be back there permanent. The kids can come visit me. Maybe someday, they will catch the magnetism and migrate there, too. Just came back from Vienna last night. America is where it is at and WV is the center of the world. Dan Harris PS. Anyone know of 50-500 acres at a reasonable price tag, let me know. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paula" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, September 21, 2000 9:20 AM Subject: Re: [WVMINERA] West Virginia Trip :-) > Lonny, > > Thank you for what you wrote. I will be there Saturday. Checking out the crafts, music and eating homemade food from the Burlington Elementary booth. Much of my family shows up. Kind of like an informal family reunion. Dear Mary Hartman, I notice that you had a lookup for the Shrout family. I have a sister of my Ggrandfather married to a George W. Shrout b. Nov. 24, 1848 parents Beckwith B. and Caroline Shrout. George W. married Sarah C. Mooreland in Grant county (West) Virginia on June 6, 1871 performed by Wm. Michael. Is there any connection with your Shrouts? If so, do you have any other info on George W. and Sarah's family?? I have recently found that many of the earlier people traveled north and south in this area ( up and down the rivers and creeks) before the main roads were built, so they may be of the same family. I appreciate your time. Thanks! Jim Moreland
I should have checked the URLs before I sent them..... SAMPUBCO (Ordering wills for PA, NY, etc) was # 59 on my list incorrectly........ (my mistake) The site is : http://www.sampubco.com For those of you who have never searched this site it is a definite must try! I have ordered 10-20 wills over the last 5 years and have been pleased. Sometimes, there is a short wait (always less than 4-6 weeks), but if you are finding a will that you hadn't found for years.....what is a few extra days wait?? Susan Tyson
Thank you Patti :-) Now you've made our day :-) What a great thing for you to do! You are one special lady. Hugs, Mary

Hi, I've just posted the August 11, 1911 Tribune Articles that Paula transcribed to the Mineral County USGenWeb Page. Way to go Paula!!!! Thanks Again! You can view these articles at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvminera/keynews.htm :) Patti McDonald Burlington WV [email protected] Co-Coordinator Mineral County USGenWeb Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvminera/mineral.htm Subscribe to Mineral County Mailing List [email protected] Surnames I am researching: HARTMAN, WOLFE, MILLER, FLEEK, WHITEMAN, PUFFENBARGER, FITZPATRICK, COOKUS, CORBUS, DYE, WALSH
I've posted this to Hampshire County, but maybe someone on this list can help. I'm told there is a book in the Hampshire Co. Library which is a compilation of graves in several Hampshire Co. cemeteries. Is there anyone on the list that owns this book and/or could do a lookup for me? I'm particularly interested in the following names, and I can only guess at the dates of death: James Lease (middle initial could be T, F, or G; born Mary 1841; name last seen on a deed in 1906, but have not been able to locate on any census after 1900; fought in Civil War, 7th Virginia Cavalry, Company F; only the service record is available but no pension because he was from Maryland and lived in Maryland). No death certificate can be found in Maryland or in Hampshire or Mineral counties, WV. Mary Jane Lease (maiden name Criss), wife of James Lease (above); born June 1845; name last seen on deed in 1906, but have not been able to locate of any census after 1900. No death certificate can be found in Maryland or WV. Silas Lees/Leese; born 1800-1810 in Virginia; all children on the 1850 census listed as being born in MD; he was last seen on 1860 census in WV; no death certificate found. Nancy Leese, wife of Silas, above; born about 1815 in Va. Not found yet on any records after 1850. Would greatly appreciate any additional information. Thanks, Kathy Lease
To all those people that I have drove crazy wanting to know "Where was South Branch" being German/Irish stubborn I FOUND South Branch. In 1884 they had a Depot: A small station on the B & O RR, in Hampshire Cunty, 20 miles north from Romeny ch, and 120 miles from Wheeling. Ex. B & O. Mail daily. W N Guthrie, postmaster. I feel so much better that the info in my ggrandfather's civil war papers have been an accurate clue. Thanks to all who had to put up with me and this question. Sorry for the multiple post but I did manage to probably drive the Hampshire County a little tired too. Bless you all. Thelma/aka Tootsie
Greetings list, My gggrandfather John A. Robinson lived in the big brick house in Patterson Creek next to the B&O RR tracks. Would any one on the list have a picture of the house. I was there two years ago and was only able to get some pictures from the front and the house was in disrepair . After John A. Robinson died 1898 his daughter Anne Page Smith and husband John Humbird Smith lived there. The family also ran the store in town with the Post Office any pictures of that would also be welcome. The family of John A. Robinson and Hannah P. McNary are, Claude E. , John Hunter, and Annie Page . Thanks John D. Dunlap
Thanks Patty.
