Elaine, My problem is I am searching earlier than 1866. She has early records in that book that gives my James White and Elizabeth Robinson White being sued, Elizabeth Robinson White posting $200 bond money for her children. I have a deed but the description of where the land is, is in the deed from William S. Taylor to James White. How do I find the records she found..........are those newspapers, church records and etc on film??? I know just enough through her books to go nuts trying to find the records. I must admit that I've not been watching the postings as well as I should. But now you have my interest. Can you folks tell me about the book and where one might be purchased? Thank you. Hi, Toots, Who told you that Hampshire Co. has no records? They have all records from 1866 forward. Only one marriage book survived the Civil War, but Horton got her info from many other sources as well, including old newspapers, church records, and Va. State Archives. Elaine
It could be that she got her info from microfilm at the State Archives. Before WV became a state, a copy of all info had to be sent to the state capital of VA. Preston Co., WV court house burned in 1869 taking most of the record info I now need. Roy Lockhart copied the info of births, marriages, & deaths he found into a book. I am very grateful he took his time to do this. I have been able to find much family info in his book that I would not have been able to get. Barb Kelley in FL
I have a know a dumb question but it is something I don't know or understand. I have info about my White's from Vicki Horton's books and that is great. My question is if Hampshire County has no records how did she find these and why can't I get a copy of these records that she found? regarding anything??? Tootsie perplexed in MI

Searching for the ancestors of John H. PAUGH b. c. 1860, place unknown, d. unknown, m. 25 Oct 1890, Elk Garden, WV, Alice B. RHODES b. c. 1869, place unknown d. unknown. It is possible that John H. PAUGH is a descendant of Michael PAUGH who settled in Garrett Co., MD (which was still Allegany Co. at that time), after the Rev. War. This Michael Paugh was born c. 1749 and served in the VA 12th Infrantry during the Revolution. He enlisted at Romney, VA, but it is not known if he resided in Hampshire County at that time. His parents are also unknown. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Lonny J. Watro
I would like to know if anyone has taken an inventory of the following cemeteries in Piedmont township. If indeed that is where these cemeteries are located: Baldwin Cemetery Oak Hill Cemetery Olivet Cemetery I am not positive but I think at least 2 of my relatives may be buried in one of these. Samuel and Martha Foster I just found a paper that Martha Foster was living in Piedmont Township on 18 Sep 1870 so I assume Samuel died before her. I can not read the name of the post office that was listed on the 1870 Census where I found Martha Foster. Martha was listed as 61 years old. They were both listed on the 1860 Hardy County Census . In 1860 Samuel was 55 years old and Martha was 53. Any idea where I can obtain this information? Any help greatly appreciated. Marian L. Bonacci Virginia [email protected]
I'm looking for someone to contact at a genealogy or historical society in Hampshire Co., (VA) WV. Does anyone know of a contact for those societies-- email, snail mail or phone? The Hampshire Webpage has no contact, so I thought one of Mineral's listers might have this info. Thanks, CR
Thank you Patti for posting the Tribune articles. The last 2 that was posted has a lot on my Lease and Miller families. I didn't know what happened to Julianne "Rebecca" (Lease) Chicarrella until I read the Dawson section of the Nov. 10, 1911 newspaper. I wasn't real sure on how to spell her last name, so I didn't try to locate her in a soundex. The town of Haywood is in Harrison County, WV and there might be a book on the 1910 census. I might finally get some additional information on her and her family. Thank you for your help. Lonnie, I know that Michael Cresap was a friend of my Daniels and that Dennis Daniels. Surprised that Dennis wasn't with him. Many of the names are not familiar Frankfort names. On the web site: http://www.wvculture.org/history/agrext/frankfrt.html Is a history of the "Frankfort Communtiy". I am trying to find out more information about the following paragraph on this web page: "Captain Michael Cressap who lived in Old Town, Maryland, came over into Hampshire County during the early part of the Revolution and organized a company of riflemen. They marched to Boston and [were] featured in several small skirmishes there. Cressap returned with them as far as New York where he died and was buried. The men in this company from Frankfort include the names of Johnson, Ashby, Wagoner, Williams, Powell, Pew, Harris, and Miller." Can anyone offer any primary sources available that will give more information about this company of riflemen, what year they were organized, who they were (ie: first names), and what skirmishes they participated in? Or can you direct me to someone who can guide me in this research? Thank you, Lonny J. Watro Short Gap, WV P.S. A Note to Wagoner descendants. Someone in the DAR has disproved the fact that John Wagoner of the Fort Ashby area was a Revolutionary War participant. They claim that John Wagoner in Rev. War records is "their" John Wagoner who never lived in Fort Ashby. I am attempting to prove that John Wagoner of the Fort Ashby area did indeed participate in the Revolutionary War along with these other men listed above. None of these men are my ancestors that I know of, so any help anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated.
I will be away for a few weeks. Annie

Posted on: Mineral County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/WV/Mineral~/245 Surname: Grapes, Stickley, Tichinel ------------------------- As a 8 year old youngster, or thereabouts, I used to talk with a Mrs. Tichinel (unsure of the spelling, but it sounded like Tichinel) on her farm down the hill and across the dirt road from my aunt & uncle's (Robert & Louise Grapes)small chicken farm in Wiley Ford in Mineral County, WV. I liked Mrs. Tichinel and she evidently liked me, my brother, and Cousin Gene Grapes. For several years ahe sent us little notes inside of Christmas cards. I dont have any genealogical data relative to Mrs. Tichinel or any of her family, but I have many fond memories about her and and the farm. She was a very nice woman!
Keith, In Netscape White Pages, if you type in the name Charles Fluharty with just the state of WV (city blank), you will get 8 of them. Elaine
Hello list, I am seeking information on a lady by the name of Karen (Carin) Crucien. She married to gentleman by the name of Charles Fluharty December 06, 1948. Karen was born in Lessendorf, Germany (now part of Poland) on May 25, 1929. My sister-in-law is trying to locate Karen for her mother. Apparently my sister-in-laws mother grew up with Karen during the war after her parents were killed. They became like sisters. The information I have is as follows: 1. Charles worked for "Claredon Sales, Inc." Broklyn, NY 2. Charles stationed in WWII, USAREU 3. Last correspondence from Karen was in 1954 from Burlington, WV from a "Burlington Children's Home" prob. an orphanage. Any assistance in helping to locate Karen would be greatly appreciated.
