I did check all my files but I do not have any information about the Allred surname. Maybe the information below will help in some way!! Maybe someone else can help with your needs. Posted on the Buchanan, Va. rootsweb message board, 25 March 2006, by Donald Da Dunn: Chas Jefferson Allred B:1860/Feb,1871 D:1913 B: Jewell Ridge Coal Company Cemetery. This is a story more than a question, I have been searching for some record of this man for five years and have all but given up hope of finding any account of his life, I am posting this message so that anyone looking in the future will have at least something to go on, what follows is what little I know of him. Mr Allred insisted in the 1900 census{Elk Mills,Carter Co, Tn} that he was born in North Carolina in February, 1871, at that time he was just married to Winifred {Winnie} Etta Holyfield, of Mt Airy, Surry County, North Carolina, Mr Allred said he was not from those parts. In August of 1900 their first son ,Walter Early Allred was born in Tennessee, in 1902, their first Daughter,Hattie L Allred, was born in West Virginia, I'm guessing McDowell or Mercer Counties, in 1904 their second son, and my Nieces Gr Father, George Wade Allred was born in Buchanan County, Virginia, in 1907 the second Daughter, Nancy {Nannie} Stella Allred was born, probably in Buchanan as well. In the 1910 census, the Family shows in New Garden Twp., of Russell County with new born Daughter Joyous Cynthia Allred. There is one more child, Douglas McKinley Allred, whose birth date is variously reported as March.8.1911-12-13, his headstone indicates 1913. His Fathers headstone indicates he died 1913, I'm gues! sing February 1913, as this was the time of the trouble during the Coal strikes. It is rumoured that Mr Allred was an Orphan from Georgia, possibly South West Georgia and that Allred may not have been his real name. It is also rumoured that he died amidst some sort of violence, and that he was shot by the Sheriff, who would have been Shields SF Harman in those days, but these things are just that: rumours Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My next door neighbor was a Winfred (Winnie) Allred. Her two sons with the Allred surname were George and Douglas. Thee were three daughters that went by different lasst names. My understanding at that time was Mrs. Allred had these children by different fathers. All the girls were not by the Allred man and were by different people. I knew all of them but at the present time cannot get my thoughts togetner. At the time I was born they were living in the Town of Mayodan, Rockingham County, North Carolina. Will try to find my file about what little I have on them. I knew all of them personally even though I was younger than any of them. There is still one of George's daughters still living in this area. Now George had a son named Charles Jefferson Allred that died about five years ago. My wife did baby sitting with Charles back in the 1930's. There is a man living in Vancouver, Canada that is looking for any information about this younger Charles that he can get. I couldn't provide him much but gave him what little I had when he was young. When I find my file on these I will post it. My research is on the Mabe and Sands families from Stokes County N. C. and all over as well. Will get back to you when I find my papers.
