BURTON: Mercer County West Virginia Marriage Book, 1854-1901 6 Sep 1899 L.M. PETTYJOHN 31 yrs single b. Amherst Co Va s/o John W. & Mariah E. to MAUD V. BURTON 21 yrs single b. Bedford Co Va d/o Geo H. & ? , O: RR; by A.B. Hunter; REMARKS: Pettyjohn sworn. I know that Maude died in Bluefield as a young woman. Per the tombstone transcription, "Maude Burton Pettyjohn" was buried in Maple Park Cemetery, Bland Street, Bluefield. Her date of death is listed only as 1907. According to the Mercer Co. courthouse, there is no death record for Maude, which is a bit surprising. I very much would like her obituary to help me with the search for her siblings. Any idea how I might find her date of death so I can request an obituary look-up in the "Bluefield Daily Telegraph" at the Craft Memorial Library? Is there an obituary index to the newspaper?
