I am researching what appears to have been a quiet period in the life of this newspaper publisher (he went on to buy the Akron (OH) Beacon-Journal, which became his base of operations in what became the Knight-Ridder newspaper chain; he was also a one-term US Congressman in 1922). He married a distant cousin of mine, Clara Irene Sheifly (also Shively), in 1893 and resided in Bluefield from 1894 until about 1897 when they moved to Philadelphia. Reportedly C.L. (as he was known) practiced law during the time he was in Bluefield. I plan to visit Bluefield next week in hopes that I can learn something about him. I know that his eldest son, John, was born in Bluefield 26 Oct 1894. I would appreciate any suggestions as to what organizations in Bluefield might have historical information for this time period (1893-1898). I would be looking for City/County directories, newspaper archives, etc. Thanks for your suggestions. Jim Ramaley Gettysburg, PA
