I'm looking for a Jordon (Jordan/Jerdon) Meadows who was in Mercer County in around 1870. He fathered an illegitimate daughter, Nellie Mae Frances Perdue born Mar 03, 1870 in Mercer County. Her mother was Rhoda Catherine Perdue, born Feb 1850 in Giles County, Virginia. There are several theories as to why "Catherine" and "Jerdon" didn't marry- the most common that they were closely related somehow- but I have found no evidence of this and am now leaning toward the idea that Jordan may have been married at the time. One way or another it was a taboo relationship. There is a Jordon Meadows born about 1798 who married Susannah Payne- could this be the guy?? He was in Mercer at the time and the only Jordon "Jerdon/Jordan" I can find in the county at the time. IF this is him- not only was he married but a good deal older than Rhoda Catherine Perdue. Does anyone have any resources outside of ancestry that might be able to see if there are any more Jordans in Mercer around 1870? Any help would be appreciated.
