She was divorced from John Calvin Meador c1892 in Giles county, VA ??. John Calvin Meador was born on 12 Sep 1856 in Dunns, WV. He died on 5 May 1906. He was buried in Meador Cemetary, Dunns, WV. He was a teacher, and later a farmer Ellen Saffrona Stafford was born on 14 Nov 1857 in Trigg, Staffordsville, Giles Co., VA. This birth year supported by 1870 census, marriage record, and death certificate. She died on 23 Mar 1914 in Chillicothe, Missouri. From records of Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, MO, who have possession of records from old Meinershagan Funeral Home: Book of May 1912-Feb. 1916, page 148: "Elane" Gordon, died 24 March 1914. Charge to J.S. Mooney, Order by Mooney and W.T. Reed, secured by Dr. Campbell. These same names appear with Ellen's daughter Stella's death, as well as others of that family. J.S. Mooney was Stella's second husband. Death Certificate confirms, but misspells name Elean. States Tuberculosis of two years duration, as primary cause of death. States birth year was 1857. Obituary in "The Evening Tribune", dated Wednesday March 25, 1914: " Mrs. Elam Gordon, a resident of the county for many years, died Tuesday at her home northwest of the city near Graham's Mill. A complication of allmenta was the cause of her death. Funera lservices were held from the house Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock and interment made in the Anderson Cemetery." She was buried on 25 Mar 1914 in Anderson Cemetery, Livingston County, MO.. In the 1900 census, Ellen and Carl, age 11, are shown living with Ellen's mother at Trigg, in Giles County, VA. In the 1910 census, Ellen and Carl are living in Livingston County, Missouri , near Chillicothe, with her second husband, John Gordon. This location is six houses away from her daughter Stella and husband John Henry Campbell. At some point after the divorce, Ellen's children, Ethel, Virginia and Bernard were raised by their father's brother, R. G. Meador and wife Lizzie, in Athens. Macy was raised by her first cousin Wilbur J. Lilly and wife Vera.
