She was born April 30, 1933, in Bluefield, West VA to the late Palmer & Alice Marie Kidd Carroll. Mrs. Gregory was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith. SURVIVORS: SON: Steve Gregory; Mount Airy, NC GRANDCHILDREN: Brandi Marie Gregory & Nicholas Collin Gregory BROTHER: Clyde Palmer "Buddy" Carroll; Wytheville, VA In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gregory was preceded in death by her husband John C. Gregory and one son Randal Gregory. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday evening, August 8, 2007 at 7:30 PM at Rocky Gap United Methodist Church, Rocky Gap, VA conducted by Rev. Webster Carroll, Rev. Ralph Kidd, Rev. Larry Ramey & Dr. Tom Conley. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the church. A private interment will be held on Thursday at Grandview Memory Gardens. Flowers are to be sent to Rocky Gap United Methodist Church by 4:30 PM, Wednesday, August 8. The family is being served by Howell Funeral Service of Mount Airy, NC. He must have died in Bluefield between 1900-1910 since she was listed as widowed in the 1910 census. Then by 1920, she was married to Robert Dawson Payne living on Augusta St. in the census, he was in real estate, she was a bank clerk. They were listed the same in 1930. She was born April 30, 1933, in Bluefield, West VA to the late Palmer & Alice Marie Kidd Carroll. Mrs. Gregory was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith. SURVIVORS: SON: Steve Gregory; Mount Airy, NC GRANDCHILDREN: Brandi Marie Gregory & Nicholas Collin Gregory BROTHER: Clyde Palmer "Buddy" Carroll; Wytheville, VA In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gregory was preceded in death by her husband John C. Gregory and one son Randal Gregory. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday evening, August 8, 2008 at 7:30 PM at Rocky Gap United Methodist Church, Rocky Gap, VA conducted by Rev. Webster Carroll, Rev. Ralph Kidd, Rev. Larry Ramey & Dr. Tom Conley. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the church. A private interment will be held on Thursday at Grandview Memory Gardens. Flowers are to be sent to Rocky Gap United Methodist Church by 4:30 PM, Wednesday, August 8. I have seen another researcher say this and when I contacted him, he did not have any information to confirm this Callie was Moffett's mother. I am hoping you might. Your Callie is listed as Callie Belcher in the 1900 census still living with her parents and listed as single with no children. If she had married Wesley Kirk, she would have been married to him by then given Moffett's birth date of 1893. I also don't see Moffett living with her in that household in the 1900 census. I can't make the facts fit that she was married to a Kirk unless she had married Wesley, divorced him, taken back her maiden name and put Moffett into an orphange and lied to the census taker - all of that is entirely possible in that time period, but the existence of a Callie Kirk in the later census with the same dates of birth have made me think it is not the case here. However, Callie Hester BELCHER was the d/o my Great Great Grand Aunt, Mishel Hester UNDERWOOD and Middleton BELCHER. Callie was one of triplets born on 8 Nov 1873 in Brush Fork, Mercer, WV. She died 16 Jan 1973 in Reedsville, Floyd, Virginia,USA. She was buried in the Reedsville, Cemetery in Reedsville, Floyd, Virginia, USA. She was first married to Wesley KIRK. They married before 1893. Their son, Moffett Preston KIRK was born 23 Jun 1893 and died Jan 1942 in Brushfork, Mercer, WV. Callie was married in 1909 in Floyd County, Virginia to Colonel Walter DUNCAN. She is listed in the 1920 Census with her husband (Walter) and two sons (Be L and Troy J) DUNCAN in Court House, Floyd County, Virginia. Hope this is helpful to you.
