There is an Idian Ridge Road off Rt. 20 before you get to Lerona that goes down to Lick Creek. There is a nice sized cemetery on the left going out that way. Early on it was in Mercer Co. before Summers Co.was formed. My family was in Mercer Co. but found themselves in Summers Co. without even moving! We have family cemeteries in both. Shirley

I requested a copy of John Flick/Jennie Caldwell's marriage license and got it but the parents and occupations were not included. The Registrar (Register of Deeds?) who sent it to me told me he could find no record for the other one - ECL Flick and Ann Hale. I'm curious as to where your information came from and if there's more where you got that. Understand, please, that I don't doubt your source, I'm just looking for more. I am researching what appears to have been a quiet period in the life of this newspaper publisher (he went on to buy the Akron (OH) Beacon-Journal, which became his base of operations in what became the Knight-Ridder newspaper chain; he was also a one-term US Congressman in 1922). He married a distant cousin of mine, Clara Irene Sheifly (also Shively), in 1893 and resided in Bluefield from 1894 until about 1897 when they moved to Philadelphia. Reportedly C.L. (as he was known) practiced law during the time he was in Bluefield. I plan to visit Bluefield next week in hopes that I can learn something about him. I know that his eldest son, John, was born in Bluefield 26 Oct 1894. I would appreciate any suggestions as to what organizations in Bluefield might have historical information for this time period (1893-1898). I would be looking for City/County directories, newspaper archives, etc. Thanks for your suggestions. Jim Ramaley Gettysburg, PA

It's been almost 10 years now Commander Glenn, but I have to ask again! Does anyone on the list have information about the little community in Mercer Co., called Hardy? It's just a few miles down the road from Oakvale, at Peggy Branch Road, I beleave. Between Ingleside and Oakvale. I had the opportunity to visit there last summer, and go to the Brown Cemetery up on the hill. It's a beautiful and peaceful area. I have always had such a strong calling to the little community, and would love to learn more about it. Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Jessie in Oklahoma

Hello fellow Wood researchers! While I rarely post and usually just sit back and listen, I've come across some information that I need to ask about. I've seen numerous debates between the various researchers working on Richard and his extensive family concerning which "John Wood" is his father. I've recently had some spare time and, not remembering what bug bit me, I decided to spend some time on my computer trying to update some family research. I don't typically go to Ancestry.com, but thought I'd check it out for new stuff since it's been years since I've been on there. Well, to my surprise, there are many more family trees posted on there then I remember. I've seen some pretty interesting information, some that conflicts with research I've physically done! But anyway, the reason for this missive is this: I've seen at least 2, may be 3, trees that show the father of Richard "Dickey" Wood as being John Woods (b.1745 in Lunenburg, VA, died 1816 in Woods Gap). Those trees show John Woods as being the son of Michael Woods (b. 1708 in Dunshaglin, Meath, Ireland and d. 3/11/1777 in Buchanon, Botetourt, VA) married to Anne Lambert (b 1712 in Dunshaglin, Meath, Ireland and died in Mercer, KY in 1816). I see the marriage in Albemarle, VA in 1734 according to those researchers. They descend further back to 1585 in England... I guess since I don't recognize either of the researchers names and some of the information I've personally researched is incorrect in their data, I'm wondering if there are any of the other researchers on either the Mercer or Patrick mailing lists that can confirm or dispel this information. I've seen lots of argument concerning Stephen and Ann Wood, but I've never heard any mention of a Michael Woods. Any thoughts out there? Missy (Wood) Coyne Baltimore, MD
