    3. While reading the emails generated by this listing over the last few days my curosity has been aroused. I was born and raised at McComas, WV (Mercer Co.) during the 40/50/60's. I currently live and work in Pasadena, MD. Does anyone doing research have any record of the name of the individual that the community of McComas was named after. Also are there any known books out there that tell the history of the community. 3. I was told that it would be too costly to have the books reprinted because the plates were destroyed. I was hoping that someone could check into having the information put on CDs. I don't know how expensive it is to have that done. It sure would help those of us that would like to be able to do our own research. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Wednesday, January 19, 2000 3:39 PM Subject: Re: [WVMERCER] Re: WVMERCER-D Digest V00 #22 >Dorothy, > >I just got an e-mail from Bob that said he checked and the books are no >longer available. 3. I tried to purchase one of the books last year and was told the cost was to high. However, when I wanted to see this book, I asked my local library to request this book and got it on loan. If your close to a library it would be worth a try. Nancy, Ill. 3. Hi Dot, I would be interested in information on this Mitchell Clay. Do you have any Welch's in this line. James Roy Welch, b. 1904, son of Oatis Welch and Leatha Lyons, married Mary Elizabeth Gunnoe, dau of Hansford Gunnoe and Mary Halstead (maybe from Boone Co)and named their firstborn son Mitchell Clayton Welch. There is also another Mitchell Clayton Welch buried in the Ward Cemetery in Kanawha Co. 3. I'm from this line too and have quite a bit of information, but don't want to overpost... If Dorothy or anyone else needs info, I'm be glad to share & compare. I'm new to this list, but have corresponded with a number of you on my WV roots... My lines from Mercer/ Giles/ Tazwell include Vest, Bailey, Belcher, Ferguson, Walker, Shrewsbury, Godfrey... I have an Uncle who came from the French family and it ties into the Clay family which ties into my Bailey/ Belcher ancestors... Daniel Smith- Northridge, CA [email protected]

    2. Linda, Thanks for looking for my grandfather in Bluefield. I don't know for sure where his family moved to in Mercer Co., from Floyd Co., but was told it was Bluefield. Guess I will have to look further. Thanks for your generosity with your time and information. Mary Ellen

    1. Re: [WVMERCER] Munsey
    2. Melinda- I wish I knew if I was related to him. My grandfather was Charles Boyd MUNSEY Sr., I know he had several brothers but I am only positive of ones name and that is Robert Fred, Sr. I have been told their mother was a STAFFORD, and that the JOHNSTONS are in there somewhere. I also know that my dad's cousins owned Mercer County Funeral Home for many years...I believe they sold it about 10 years ago and one of my cousins still works there. I am sorry to be so vague but our family is so strung across the country now it is almost impossible to get straight, if any, answers from any of them. Try this http://www.jamesmunsey.com This is James Munsey's site and there is a lot of info on Munseys that I have not connected with yet. I think that you will find some of the older stuff useful eventually. Thanks, Kim

    1. Re: [WVMERCER] DUNFORDS...Halls and Munseys
    2. Linda- Aren't you sweet for looking for the Dunfords for me. I hate that I have such a limited amount of info on them. I do know they were in Montcalm. With what you have given me perhaps I can start a backwards search trying to link these to my husband's grandmother. Thank you! In case you are in that book and run across a Preston Hall or a Booker Preston Hall or a Munsey I would love to know. Do not make a special search...just if you find anything. I have looked so long for the Halls I don't know what I'd do with my extra time if I found them anyway!!! LOL Thanks, KIM

    2. Sandy, I have Jane Thompson in my line. I have her birthdate as 1800. Her daughter Elizabeth was the second wife of Rev. Joseph L. Lilly and they had 12 children together. I had Henry Gore as Elizabeth Thompson's father but the discrepancy in names had me puzzled. I have Henry Gore's parents as Robert Gore & Thomasia (Polly) Jerrell, Does anyone know any more about the Henry Gore's parents? Mary Ellen [email protected]
