I am glad to hear there are some people related to the RATLIFF family in Mercer County, W.VA. I would like to see if anyone can relate to my Ratliffs. This is what I have. Some of it can be verified and some cannot. Arthur, Hello, I have some Perkins relatives in Mercer County. Your reply to Clifford caught my eye with Missouri Ann Perkins. The dates you give for her would make her possibly related to my George Perkins from the same area. She could be his sister or cousin. Is there anything else you know about that lady? This is all I have, and it is very incomplete. James PERKINS married Lucy ? The only child I know of was George PERKINS George PERKINS married Octavia BIBBIE Their children were: Earnest PERKINS Clifford PERKINS Carrie PERKINS Bessie PERKINS Herbert PERKINS Crockett PERKINS Robbie PERKINS Tuny PERKINS Lacy PERKINS Arabelle PERKINS (b.1894-d.1982) married Ballard Hezekiah RATLIFF (b.1883-d.1965) They are my great-grandparents.Ballard is the son of James RATLIFF and Elizabeth SURFACE. Thanks, I hope it rings a bell. Suzie
I am so excited...maybe...could it be? This is just great...Thank you so much! KIM

Thank You. I have one book of Mr. Sanders. Legacy of Home and Families of Princeton-Athens Mercer Co. There was 6 pages on the Lilly Meador connection. I'm going to Princeton to visit my daughters in a few months so if I haven't heard from him by then I'll just stop by and get them or go to the Library. I told my husband he can go fishing and I'm going hunting.LOL. Doris
Dan, I think you are correct about the lack of respect for the cemeteries in the Bluestone Dam flooded area. We have contacted the Corps of Engineers and everyone we could think of for information and no one seems to have any. Thank you very much for looking. In my line there was a John S.Williams b. abt 1780d. 1850 and a John A. Williams that I have no dates for and my John L. Williams b. 1806 d. 1853 , but I don't remember ever hearing him referred to as John III. Thanks again, Mary Ellen
Hi Melinda, I could not find a record of Oren's parents. There was an article about Leonard but it did not list Oren's parents. Thomas Allen BECKETT and Pauline ROLES BECKETT COTTAGE IN ATHENS - This cottage was built by Tom Beckett for rental purpose. It provides a nice income for Pauline, his widow. This is the last house up to the corner of East Concord and State Street. [This was in the 1987 edition so it looks like Pauline was still alive in 1987] Basil BECKETT - Basil and Ruby Beckett built this house, then moved to Princeton. Tom BECKETT - The next cottage belonged to Tom and Pauline Beckett. They lived here with their two daughters until they moved up to State Street in the late 1940's. Bob BECKETT - George B. Beckett built a big house for his family and moved to Athens. He was a caretaker at Concord [College] and a very good one. George B. Beckett and his wife Gertrude had thirteen children. Not all of them lived to maturity. The children were Earl, Bob, Tom, Basil, Roy, Ruth (Stanley), Virgil and Julie (Wiley). George Benjamin BECKETT was the oldest son of John Benjamin and Julia Oakes BECKETT. The Beckett family members are mostly Irish descendants. John was a veteran of the civil war, having served in the Confederate Army from 1861 to 1865. John and Julia resided near Athens. Julia died in 1927 a few days before her 83rd birthday. John died on December 1, he was 94 years old. They are buried in the Austin Cemetery near Lerona. George was born November 30, 1866. He married Gertrude Basham in 1893. They had 13 children. Tom as a plastered. He married Pauline Roles of Princeton. Children were June, Elizabeth and Tommy. Tommy died in infancy. Hope this helps. Linda,Roanoke,VA
Hi Clifford, I'm sorry, there was only one story about Mabes and one Mabes Cemetery listed in the books but I could not connect any of the information to your Mabes. Sorry I could not be of any help. Linda,Roanoke,VA

Hi Again All, Mr. Glennis R Walker have published a 726 page book (no index) on the WALKER line. I'm not sure if he has any books left, but this is his address: P O Box 155, Cool Ridge, WV 25825. This is not my line, but I have the book because there are some Walkers that connect to the SHREWSBURY lines. I have read this book because he has depicted the Walker family in great detail with very interesting stories on family members. Also, he includes the source of his information as his writes. Hope this will help, Doris At 08:09 AM 21 01 2000 -0800, you wrote: > 1 JOHN WALKER b: ABT 1777 in Orange Co., VA d: 1850 in Spanishburg, >Mercer Co., VA (WV) >.. +NANCY MULLINS b: ABT 1777 m: 1797 in Greenbrier Co., VA (WV) d: >Unknown > >. 2 CHRISPI ANOS WALKER b: 1804 >..... +ELEANOR C. Hi Linda & All, Thanks for the information on Mr. Sanders books, but I have some of his books. Also, I have talked to Mr. Sander on phone about a erorr in my SHREWSBURY line, so I agree with Linda (see below) about veifying information. The information in Sander's book are base on inviews and "family stories" so like so mamy of our family stories there is "some truth" mixed with errors. In most case oral stories are add to, or parts left out, with each telling. Mr. Sander sent me a order form for his latest book "Clay Family Settlement on the Bluestone River" which have these surname in it: Clay, Farley, Shrewsbury, Belcher and Bailey. Has any one ordered this book? I was just wonder how much information is on the Shrewsbury in this book. Thanks, Doris At 03:28 PM 20 01 2000 -0500, you wrote: >Linda >I have "Lillies on the Bluestone", but you still have to be carefull, for >he had errors in it, but I tried to track the worksheet that he had a >picture of in the book, but the individual was no longer living at the >address and his wife, was not happy with me calling and told me that he >lived in the south with his son and she was not the lease bit helpful. Hi all, It's been fun but all good things must come to an end. I can't take any more requests after tonight. I have to return the books this weekend and only have time to look up the requests that I have already received. Now that the list is going good I hope we can keep it up and be of help to each other. Linda,Roanoke,VA As a reminder, I am researching MILLS, HILL, BARKER, WALKER, SIZEMORE, BLEVINS, BALL, DOWELL
