    1. [WVMERCER] James P. Dillion
    2. Dawn Murphy
    3. Does anyone have any information on James P. Dillion who was born in VA about 1816? He died in Mercer Co. on July 20, 1869. His wife was Julia or Juliet, and that's all the info I have on her. One of their childrens' names was Emarilla born November 14, 1843, but I do not have her date of death. I am new to researching geneology and any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

If the file is > extensive, a GEDCOM file would be great. I'm not sure which list this came from but, please, if you are going to ask for help the least you can do is send one family group. There is no way I would send my 16,000 person gedcom out to a complete stranger. When asking for help you should tell what you know about the family and offer to share info. It seems like the last few years there have been more and more people writing and saying, "Send me everything you have", then getting upset when I offer to share their one line for several generations of ancestors. I am looking for information also, can we share? Sandy in Florida

    3. Wayne if your familiar with the McComas area the graveyard sits on a mountain top across the road in front of the old Pinnacle Elementary School (which is now a church). Traveling from the school heading towards Matoaka its the first dirt road that turns off to the left. You follow this road up the mountainside (American Coal Company - Pinnacle Mine had tram tracks around the mountainside many years ago - they were torn out probably in the 1950s). I've heard tales of burials taking place at the Harmon Cemetary in bad weather with the casket being taken up to the graveyard using a mine trolley on the tram track. There are several families still living in the area. I also see where someone pointed you into the area of Linda Akers - she visited the gravesite last fall and is planning a cleanup this spring sometime. She can give you more detailed directions as to where it sits on this hillside area. The Jones and Thompson familes had/still have homes in the general area. Linda Akers website has a picture of my grandfather Andrew Spicer along with his brothers and sisters taken at the Harmon graveyard on this website. I'd estimate the picture was taken in the 1920/30s timeframe. http://www.angelfire.com/wv/akers/hdirect.html I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Linda Akers for her assistance helping me with my Spicer genology - she's a great wealth of information. We have discovered we share kinship through hers and my Harmon grandparents. Keep up the good work Linda - the web has made genology searching such a great experience and its people like Linda and all the other great contributors to the Mercer County and other Genology websites that make it so pleasurable. Kudos also to our Mercer County Web Managers - you provide a great service. 3. Let off two children: Mary Ann Keatley (born 1828 Monroe Co; died 2/3/1857) married on 5/17/1847 in Monroe Count to Green V. Pine (born 1823 in VA) Adaline B. Keatley (bonr 1830 in Monre Co) married 1st on 7/31/1851 in Monroe County to Henry S. Gore (born 1827/28; died 4/10/1876 in Summers Co; buried at the Shannon Place) who was the son of Henry Gore and Jane Unicia Farley; married to 2nd William A. French; married 3rd to William Hare. Henry was a private in Company A. 17 Regiment, Virginia Cavalry during theCivil War. They had three children. William A. French was a saloon keeper in Hinton, WV Sandy Moten Cocoa, Florida

    1. [WVMERCER] Keatley Martin
    2. Moten, Sandra K
    3. 1. On the martin line. We have Daniel Martin, which I have born 1758 in Ireland or Pennsylvania. I have just discovered a Daniel Martin, Male, christening 14 May 1756 in Downpatrick, Down, Ireland. His father was Robert Martin. Does anyone else have anything on Daniel and if he was born in Penn or Ireland? 2. Mary Keatley, I have not found anything on her birth other that she was born 1756. My Keatley family history has not connected to her. But I don't have any wife for Francis. But he is too late to be her father, but possible brother. According to Miller's "History of Summers County," the founder of the Keatly family was James Keatley who, with his brother, came from Ireland to America early in the 1800 century. The brother settled in Pennsylvania and James settled at the mouth of Indian Creek and raised five sons; John, Joseph, Wilson, Henry and James. Judge Miller was only partially correct in his history of James Keatley. It is true that he did have five sons named as above. However, this James was not born until 1790, married 1809, and had ten children born in a period between 1809 and 1830. Further, according to Johnston's "History of the Middle New River Settlements," the first white settlement was not made on Indian Creek until 1769-1774 Keatley family records show that the progenitor of the Keatley family was Francis Keatley who was probably born in Ireland circa 1750. It was probably. Francis to whom Judge Miller was referring as coming to America from Ireland although he didn't effect the trip until the latter half of the 18 century. With respect tot he immigrant Francis as having a brother who settled in Pennsylvania a check of the D.A.R. Lineage Books reveals that a Christopher Keatley (born 6/2/1752 in Ireland; died 10/18/1831 in Centre Co, PA) served as a private in the Lancaster County Militia under Colonels Lowrey and Rogers and as a corporal in the 1st Battalion of Flying Camp under Colonel Cunningham. He married 1790 to Esther Graham (1767-1853) and had at least two children; John Keatley (1810-1891) who married in 1837 to Catherine Jack (1814-1892) and Jane Keatley who married in 1836 to William Martin (born 1812). Christopher and his family are the only Keatleys that can be found Pennsylvania and it is quite possible that he is the brother of Francis. It is interesting to not that Christopher's daughter married a Martin and that a Martin family came from Cumberland county (or Cumberland Valley), Pennsylvania to Giles County, Virginia and that two of their descendants married into the Keatley family of Mercer County. Does anyone have any information on this? Francis Keatley (probably born Ireland circa 1750; died 1825). Came to America and settled at the mouth of Indian Creek in what is now Summers county, West Virginia. He had eight children, the order of their birth is unknown: Kate Keatley Thomas Keatley William Keatley Polly Keatley Elizabeth Keatley Ann Keatley married 1801 in Monroe County, VA to Daniel Hendrix. Hannah Keatley married 1/20 1807 in Monroe County, VA to Elijah Roach. James Keatley (born 1790; died Monroe County, VA) married 5/2/1809 in Montgomery Co, VA to Lydia Sovain (born 11/1794 in Botetourt Co, VA; died 5/10/1869 in Mercer County, WV) who was the daughter of Abraham and Susanna Sovain of Botetourt Co. They settled at the mouth of Indian Creek and had ten Children. Judge Miller, in his "History of Summers County," states that the four oldest sons of James and Lydia were Democrats, strong Secessionists, and served with the Confederate Army during the Civil War and that their youngest son was a Republican and a strong supporter of the Union was Republican and a strong supporter of the Union. While their political convictions may have been as he stated, it is doubtful that any of his four oldest sons every served in the war. First, they would have been rather old (aged 39 through 51); second they all had large families at the outbreak of hostilities and would have been exempt from service; and third, there are no Keatleys listed in any of the military units in any of the counties of Virginia. John Keatley (born 12/9/1809 in Monroe County, Va; died 3/7/1893 or 4/8/1893) married 1st on 2/20/1832 in Monroe Co, to Mahala McDaniel who was the daughter of William McDaniel; married 2nd to Susan Harvey (born 1825 in VA; died 3/1/1908 in Mercer co; buried Keatley Family Cemetery in Speedway, WV) who was the daughter of Thomas Harvey. John possibly had three children by his first wife who were probably born and raised in Monroe Co. They were later divorced. John had eight children by his second wife. Harriet Keatley (born 1810 in Monroe Co) married 7/19/1832 to Caperton Wright Was someone recently asking about Caperton Wright on one of the list? Nancy Keatley (born 6/13/1812 in Monroe Co; died 10/19/1876) married 1/27/1831 in Monroe County to John Holman Saunders. Joseph Keatley (born 5/100/1815 in Monroe Co, died 4/25/1901 in Summers Co) married 1st on 1/25/1840 in Monroe Co to Delilah Hutchison (born 1820 in Monroe county; died 8/26/1855) who was the daughter of A. Sarah Hutchinson; married 2nd on 1/19/1856 to Eliza Francis (born 1833 in VA; died 6/2/1903), who was the daughter of James and Susan Francis and who was previously married to a Mr. Hurt. They moved Wyoming Co in 1870 but returned to the mouth of Indian Creek in 1890 and bought part of the Fowler plantation. Joseph had three children by his first wife and four children by his second. Joseph may have had five other children; Robert, Jennie (who married W. D. Light), Malinda (who married Louis Shumate), Ann (who married a Mr. Houchins) and Ellen (4/12/1859-9/29/1939). Wilson Keatley (born 1817 Monroe Co; died 4/4/1865 Monroe Co) married 9/2/1844 in Monroe Co to Martha Roles (born 1824-26 in Virginia; died 10/10/1901 Summers Co) who was the daughter of Mordecai Roles. Emily Keatley (born 1820 in Monroe County) married 7/16/1837 in Monroe Co to Alexander Halstead. Henry Keatley (born 7/20/1822 or 6/17/1823 Monroe Co; died 8/10/1898 Monroe County) married 1st on 11/9/1846 in Monroe Co to Almira Hurt (born 5/4/1828 Monroe Co; died 12/27/1858 Monroe Co) who was the daughter of Robert and Mary Hurt of Bedford, VA; married 2nd on 5/8/1860 in Monroe County to Susan Jane Lively (1834-8/14/1890) married 3rd 10/14/1890 to Rachel A. L. Bragg died 1901 in Monroe co) who was the daughter of Thomas and Virgniia Bragg. They settled on Stinking Creek in Summers Co, WV. He was quite a celebrated character throughout his early life. He was charged, in connection with a number of others, in the commission of various offenses in violation of the law and spent some time in jail having been charged with the burning of Walker and Peter's tobacco barn. he was convicted at one trail and acquitted at a re-trial. Henry had nine children by his first wife and four by his second. James Keatley (born 6/26/1825 Monroe Count; died 1/30/1918 Summers County; buried Ballard Church Cemetery) married 1st on 8/16/1877 in Monroe County to Juritta E. Ballard (born 1858; died 11/16/1906 Monroe Co; buried Ballard Church Cemetery) ; married 2nd on 11/30/1908 in Monroe Co to Mary E. Jamison (born 1857; died 1914 Monroe County, WV) who was previously married in 1897 to Charles M. Davis. Charles Keatley and his first wife had ten children. Any information on these would be appreciated. Any correction as well. Sandy Moten Cocoa, Florida
