    1. [WVMCDOWE-L] Re: Curtis & Clarissa Coleman of Avondale
    2. Hello fellow searchers!!! I am trying to find the tombstone of Curtis and Clarissa Coleman. According to Curtis Coleman's pension records, he was burried in Avondale and died 1 Jul 1908. His wife is also burried there and died 9 Nov 1909. Curtis is a Civil War Veteran and I would like to have a Veterans' tombstone for him. Curtis and Clarissa's children were: Sherman, Sheridan, Adam, Julie and Melvina Catherine who was known as Kate or Catherine. Paris Jones, husband of Catherine along with David Davis & wife Caroline (Clarissa's son from her first marriage to Adam Davis) both took care of her before she died. Clarissa (Charles) was first married to Adam Davis. He died in a prison camp in Saltville, Va during the Civil War. Clarissa and Adam's children were David and Sytha. Sytha married George Washington Rowe. A family story tells of how Clarissa had a trading post during the Civil War. She rode to a fort in KY to get salt for the area when they were out. If anyone has any information, it would be greatly appreciated. Heather
