    1. JOHNSON, John Frank > Welch post Civil War: DANIELS, GRUNDY

    3. John Frank JOHNSON married Julia ELLINGTON in Washington Co. VA prior to the Civil War. Their children were Robert and James Nathaniel (b. 1862). After the war (or during, by other accounts), John Frank and Julia headed West to Illinois, then returned to VA and seperated. John Frank went to Welch WV, Julia and sons ended up in Mendota VA. I descend from James Nathaniel. John Frank remarried, and had daughters Sadie (m. ? DANIELS) and Fannie (m. ? GRUNDY), and an unknown son, apparently living out their years in Welch. John Frank is quite an enigma - I'd love learn more about him and the offspring of his second family. The Johnson descendents of his 1st two sons tell varied conflicting stories about him, never naming his 2nd wife, trying to make him sound like he was a Confederate soldier, but the timelines don't work - he may have actually fought for the Union - might explain his settling in WV after the war. There's a sordid family secret here, I suspect. Any insight? Rees
