Good Morning: I am new to list so want to introduce myself. My name is Brenda Collins Dillon. Perhaps some of you have visited my website ,"AppalachianMountain Families" The site mainly deals with my father's Collins roots and his possible Melungeon background. We have tried to turn the site into something for everybody and we are always adding new files and more Melungeon research. What brings me to McDowell Co. are the surnames COLLINS-ROARK-GODFREY-MULLINS Today I am searching for John and Polly Collins who according to 1860 census of McDowell Co. resided at Dick's Creek. I am searching for factual record of parentage of John W.Collins. I believe his father was Meredith Collins but have no record of proof. Also "Polly" seems to have dropped out of the sky. I thought with the name "Polly" her name was Mary but in past weeks I have heard her name was Rachel, and another person wrote Mary Edna O'Rourke. JohnW b. 1797-1802 probably Russell Co. Va. d. after 1870 Possibly McDowell Co. ( appears on 1870 census ....not on 1880 ) Oh yes, Does anybody know where Dick's Creek is or was? Any and all help is welcomed.
