Alfred is the one who lived in Falls Church, Va., and ran an Exxon Gas Station there. Also remembered Rose Marino's tremendous work-up on "Welch and its People" being completed in 1985, which covered the period of 1800 to 1985, which gives a history about the Town and its people. For the period of 1910-1920 a listing of Alden G. Perdue, b: 05-23-1913 in Mohegan, Wva., son of Ira J. and Mary Jane Cook Perdue. Attended Welch School and was employed by Smokeless Coal Company at Premier, W.Va., which adjoins Welch. Alden marred Logene Price who was employed at the Welch Daily News as a teletype operator for 35 years. Alden and Logene were the parents of Jean Sinicrope, Kimball, W.Va., then lived on McDowell Street in Welch, then moved to Quail Valley Estates in Princeton, W.Va. Aladen died 03-29-1985 in the Princeton Hospital, and buried at Roselawn Cemetary, Bluefield-Princeton Road. For the period of 1920 - 1930, a listing is shown for Ira Perdue: He married Mary Jane Cook, b: 04-20-1887 in Pineville, the daughter of Dan W. & Eliz. Sizemore Cook. Moved in the early 1920's to Mohegan, and Ira was employed as a coal miner, but injured in the mines in the 1920's. Moved to Premier in the 1930's. Ira and Mary were the parents of: Dennis, Hattie, Mrs. Ted Walters of Welch; Mrs. Gracie Bunting of Asco; Ethel, Mrs. Mike Orban of Ikes Fork; Carrie, Bud of Cincinnati, OH; Alden and Ray of Princeton, Wva.; Hershel of Premier, and Ira, Jr. Mary Cook died 05-03-1979 in Bluefield following a long illness and buried at Iaeger Memorial Cemetery, Roderfield, Wva. Son Dennis Whitten was born 04-22-1909 in Pineville, Wva. Attended Welch School, dropped out to work in the mines when his father was injured. Dennis married Marjorie Worrell, 10-17-1936 - She was born 03-15-1916 in Coalwood, Wva., the daughter of Joseph and Ocra Puckett Worrell. Marjorie's mother was born in 1889 the daughter of Alonzo & Rosa Marshall Puckett. Their children were Bonnie, Mrs. S. B. Blankenship, Salem, Va., with whom she made her home; Josephine, Mrs. Thomas L. Jones of Roderfield and Ray R., of Fairfax, Va. Ocra's brothers were Coy Puckett of North Tazewell, Va., and R. L., of Helenville, Va. Her sister was Mrs. Oscar Marshall of Salem, Va, who died 07=-05-1070 in Salem and buried at Iaeger Memorial Cemetery in Roderfield, Wva. Marjorie Worrell's children; Elizabeth "Beth", Mrs. H. J. Rivers, Franklin Jay and Dennis Ray. Marjorie died 01-21-1965 and also buried at the Iaeger Cemetery. ( The Book says He, but believe this to be a typo and should be she. ) Dennis Ray was born 08-14-1940 in Iaeger, also a grad of Welch High, where he was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball and baseball. He won the best Sportsmanhip Award. Key club, Lettermen and Athletic Scholarship Society. Grad from Concord College 1962, also involved in all sports. Became a coach and taught at Gary Jr. High and assisted Coach Cure. Dennis married Peggy Brown of Gary, who was the daughter of Clarence and Margaret Brown . She also a grad of Gary High. Dennis got his Masters Degree from WVA Univ. Became head football coach at South Briar High and golfing coach in Hollywood, Fl. Dennis/Peggy's son - Franklin Jaywas b. 07-=05-=1948 in Premier, Wva., also a grad of Welch High and attended Manatee Jr. College and Bluefield State College 1974-1982 employed by Ranger Fuel Corp, Bolt. (?) Franklin married Mary Kathryn Clark, b: 01-08-1952 in Gary, Wva. the daughter of O.P. and Eva Clark. Grad. Gary High 1969. She earned her A.B. Degree in Psy. at Guilford Coll, Greensboro, NC. Also a Masters at Univ. of Ky, taught at Big Sandy and then at Fall River Elem. Taught 3rd grade at Welch Elem. As of 1985 he was employed as distribution Superv. at H. C. Lewis Oil Co., Welch. Franklin/Mary's daughter Carrie Edna b: 04-15-1907 in Pineville, Wva. Employed at McDowell County Bd. of Ed. until she retired. D: 11-25-1978 at Stevens Clinic Hosp in Welch, also buried at the Iaeger Cem. Daughter Carrie Anne as born 11-13-1984. Daughter Hattie Eliz was born 05-14-1911 in Pineville, Wva., Married Ted Walters and resided in the Libby Buidling in Welch. Were parents of: Jane, Mrs. John Caldwell of Bedford, Va., Mrs. Delores "Dee" Hornbuckle of Gary, Wva. Hattie was preceeded in death by her husband, brothers Junior, Alden and Dennis and two sisters Carrie and Grace Bunting. Hattie died 04-23-1985 at Stevens Clinic and was also buried at the Iaeger Cem. Son, Ira Jr., was bnorn about 1926 in Mohegan and attended Welch High and was a Vet of WWII. Was a disabled miner. He married Irene Arthur and were the parents of Karen and Ronnie who lived in Premier. Ira Jr., was pronunced dead at his home , lying in Spice Creek near the Premier Post Office - death due to an apparent heart attack, burial also at the Iaeger Cem. NOTE: a foot note in the book says that Info on Mary Elizabeth is with Rivers - meaning that somewhere within this Welch book is information about her listed under the Family of Rivers.
