Hi everyone, I am Bill Mele and I am searching for information on my grand parents who immigrated to McDowell County from San Giovanni in Fiore, Calabria, Italy. They lived in Welch, Havaco, and JenkinJones WV from 1906 through approximately 1940. My grandfather died working the mines and is buried at the cemetery at JenkinJones. I am looking for the following surnames: MELE, JACONES, and MILENASE The only problems I have encountered have been in dealing with the Vital Registration Division of Health, Charleston, WV. Most WV web sites refer you to this office for records dated after 1910. After a long delay they sent my paper work back and sent me to McDowell County were we all know records are a mess.
