    1. Anybody know of Marinda or John Frank?
    2. Rees Chapman
    3. Before I unsubcribe, please let me ask again: Anyone know of a Marinda ? b. abt. 1854 (allegedly in VA), lived in McDowell Co. after 1870? Or a John Frank JOHNSON b.abt. 1832 in Washington Co. VA? They settled in Big Creek, McDowell Co. WV after the Civil War, and married before 1870; by 1880 they had added children: Alice (b. abt. 1872) Frank (b. abt. 1874) Nannie (b. abt. 1873) Walter (b. abt. 1879) This was John Frank's 2nd marriage, he was court clerk in 1880. >From my last post: ____________________________________________________________ John Frank's parents were Walter JOHNSON and Mary BARB of Washington Co., VA; He was born c. 1832. He married Julia ELLINGTON in Washington Co. VA prior to the Civil War, and their children were Robert, James Nathaniel (b. 1862), and perhaps a Mary Francis (b. c. 1857). After the war (or during, by other accounts), John Frank and Julia headed West to Illinois, then returned to VA and seperated. John Frank went to Welch WV and married Marinda ? who was age 16 in 1870. By 1880 his daughter Mary F. and son James Nathan are there in McDowell, along with children Alice (8), Frank (6), Nannie (3) and Walter (4 mos). Julia lived out her days in Mendota, VA. John Frank was the clerk of the circuit court in 1880, and his son James Nathan was a deputy clerk. But by 1884 James Nathan was in Tazewell Co; I descend from him. John Frank is quite an enigma - I'd love learn more about him and the offspring of his second family. The Johnson descendents of his 1st two sons tell varied conflicting stories about him, never naming his 2nd wife, claiming he abandoned the family when James Nathan was 3 days old (but his military records show he was hospitalized when that son was born, remaining there for several months thereafter). There's a sordid family secret here, I suspect. Any insight? Rees Chapman

Subsequently in 1985 a "Welch and its People" was published , which wrote about the History of the small town - once titled 'The Little New York City" during the coal boom years, and because of the cosmopolitan development - a melting pot of people so to speak. A time span from 1800 to 1985 was covered and various families were/are depicted in the Book. Pending when they arrived on the scene, determined where they were listed. The following Belchers are listed: H. Dewey Belcher - 1920-1930. Clark Belcher - 1930-1940 Emanuel "Doc" Belcher - 1900-1910 John W. Belcher - 1900-1910 Dr. L. L. 3. THIS IS FOR NOTIFICATION TO ALL ROOTSWEB MAILING LISTS From: listowners-announce@rootsweb.com Subject: RootsWeb now blocking attachments and HTML --------------------------------------- Hi, folks -- Well, it took almost two months longer than expected, but we're right now installing a SmartList hack that blocks file attachments (including VCARDS), HTML messages and enriched text postings. Sorry about the delay: things have been crazy around here. This note is to let you know how it works. When a member sends something to a mailing list written in HTML, or with a non-plain-text attached file, the list server will send the member's message back to them, with a note at the very bottom explaining the plain-text requirement at RootsWeb. A COPY OF THIS REJECTION MESSAGE WILL BE SENT TO OWNERS AS WELL! That's because the member may write back to you to complain or to ask for help, and it can be pretty confusing if they write a reply to a message that you never saw. So when you as the listowner suddenly start getting messages from YOURLIST-L-REQUEST@rootsweb.com, quoting some ungodly HTML mess that you never saw before, don't be alarmed. :-) It just means the list server is rejecting a MIME message that was sent to your list, and that you may get a response from the poster. Attachments and HTML will be blocked from every list alike.
